About 1000 Words Gallery
1000 Words Gallery is a non-profit, Black-owned art space in Indianapolis dedicated to uplifting emerging Black and Brown visual artists. The gallery's mission focuses on providing a platform for local artists while promoting equity and accessibility in the art world. Visitors enjoy a vibrant and intimate setting where they can learn about a diverse range of artists and engage in community events. The gallery hosts fresh artwork and events twice a month, ensuring there is always something new to experience. Guests often highlight the enriching atmosphere and the genuine connections fostered by the owner, who is known for making everyone feel welcomed. 1000 Words Gallery also extends its reach beyond traditional gallery spaces, actively participating in creative placemaking within the community.
The 1000 words Gallery does an AMAZING job not only creating safe and supportive spaces for artists but also providing opportunities for people of all backgrounds to connect with art in their own way and connect with other people around Indianapolis!!!

Every experience with 1000 Words is always enriching, from visiting the gallery, volunteering in the garden and, most recently, taking a calligraphy workshop with Rob Sloan. Chris always makes sure to make a quick connection with everyone and that uniqueness makes 1000 Words stand out.
