I felt welcome here when I heard the friendly banter of the staff. The store is small and is packed with a good selection of items. I found some pieces of glassware that were just like the kind my grandmother had in the 60's. They were marked very low and I bought all seven pieces. There was a nice selection of linens, which were clean and well priced. I would have bought some, but I really didn't need any. I did buy some decorative pieces. If you are in the area, stop in. The staff is friendly, the prices are low (considerably lower than GW) and you are helping a wonderful ministry.

Laughable prices for absolute junk. Rude employees, and an overall a bad experience.

This place misinterprets the word of God.They want you to be their employee and pay you nothing. They will attempt to brainwash you like Jim Jones! It’s a Cult!Duhhhhhh!Spend a few days here and listen to the rhetoric and then consider, who is paying for their Business? This is another Wolf with Sheep clothes! You don’t have to be eaten up by these demons!Stay if you will, but consider the idea that you can look these demons in the eyes and tell them where they will go in the end.Get a tent and stay in the woods.I warned you!

I had a great experience at good news shelter for the homeless and persons like me simply down on their luck. I did some soul searching on Wednesday August 16th; I believe God is my higher power and Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Pastor Daniel had a great sermon on Tuesday night which clarified to me that I need to further reinforce my relationship with God specifically with the talent he is giving me for 57 years as an architect and artist and a musician. I left the mission on Wednesday afternoon the 16th to pursue my dreams and goals; I simply can't afford to work for free but, I do support service work! I do feel guilty and a little remorse for simply walking out on Wednesday afternoon after lunch instead of speaking with my counselor or Mr Anderson. I would have preferred to explain my decision and reasons why one-on-one with a staff but that simply didn't work with mutual time frame and I start a new job Friday afternoon. My dream is to build a world class Design Studio which will be named Studio B3 LLC. I am working for a retail firm daily but in my off hours I'm concentrating on the foundations of my new company therefore I was grateful to hear the message that Pastor Daniel offered Tuesday regarding our purpose from God or are calling with our god-given talent; if you look at Psalm 19 you shall find where I got my calling from God. I'm really grateful for all the things good news mission has provided me in my downtime; but God is calling me back to my native career and talent as a registered architect and engineer. I pray that we may stay connected and possibly collaborate on a future project. I put together a project and design and proposal for a new community Center. I collaborated on a project with a Christian Empowerment Center, locating a new facility in The Tuxedo Park area. Please feel free to contact me anytime phone text or email so I may further assist good news Ministries. God bless, Brett's M thresher AIA PS I was having medicine picked up by your staff on Wednesday morning please return these items back to the same Pharmacy store and that is located CVS 56th and Illinois I. Many thanks for helping out! You have all my contact information to reach me if this is already happened you don't need to call if you never picked up the medication.

Prices are way to high. The sign on the door said they have the right to search bags but as soon as we walked in we were chased down and told that my wife can't have her purse in the store. Should be a sign on the door saying no bags or purses, instead of being accused of being thieves cuz we brought our designer bag in. Also looks like they pulled most everything in there right out of the trash.

Do not send your children here today I had to remove my children from the program my oldes6wsnt listening so when I was called I was told they would call the police o. Hi. If he didn't listen ( this is the second time for him getting in trouble first time I was called and I picked him up immediately) this time he was threatened with the police this is not okay if you are faith based Jesus saidbsuffer the little children bring them unto me not threatening and giving them a fear of man its not okay because you deal with people of color to give a child a fear of police presence my son wants to be a police officer when. He gets older and today could have changed that because some person who works with children don't understand children they really need to reread the Bible a d see what GOD say about children he doesn't play when you do wrong g to his kids so GOD bless you if you send or sending a child to this place they are not Believers in the Most High God. N9t a place for children.alnost forgot to add I came in likeb10 minutes to pick up my children who were locked on the otherside of a gate waiting on my in a parking area.

That is right holding people back for God's will. Well my God is a forgiving God. You should be ashamed at the guilt and shame you project on to these men. Everyone deserves love, compassion and trust. Really not allowed to use their own cell phone. If you do it will be confiscated. There is do much more to be said about this place. The conditions should be under review and if they are not then shame on the state of indiana..#crookedchristians.@StateofIndiana

Good News Ministries Thrift Shop is a small but mighty thrift shop that has existed quietly on the corner of East Washington Street and Rural since 2006 in what appears to have been a former Village Pantry. Falling under the umbrella of Good News Mission, a near-eastside ministry that started off as what one some would call a "homeless shelter" but has grown to include a youth center, supports for families, and even a neighborhood health clinic with a focus on the near-eastside. Good News Ministries Thrift Shop offers used or new clothing, furniture, appliances, household items, and much more. The thrift shop is run by residents from the men's shelter and offers them work experience and direct customer interaction. I drive by the thrift shop just about every single day on the way to work and had long been curious, however, I never stopped in until recently to finally check it out. Those who were working in the story were friendly and helpful. Rest assured that this is not a Goodwill store - it's smaller, less organized, and definitely more crowded and a bit run down. However, I found it to be clean and actually was surprised how much they actually had. 100% of the proceeds from the thrift shop help to support the various efforts of Good News Ministries. It's worth noting that this very much a ministry as is everything with Good News. There's a strong foundation of faith here, specifically Christian, and it radiates throughout their offerings. In terms of accessibility, I'd say the thrift shop offers casual accessibility. Yes, you can get in it and the actual environment typically will depend on what they have at the time. I generally had not much difficulty, but it's a bit hit-and-miss. Because it's an old Village Pantry, the building itself was generally designed with accessibility in mind. I've never seen an actual crowd here. The small parking lot has informal options for accessibility like aisle ends, etc. The thrift shop is catty-corner to the Good News 10-unit family shelter and right by the East Washington Branch Library. Would I return? Definitely. Prices are good, options are plentiful, customer service is casual but helpful, and Good News has been around since the 1950s and has a long history of helping those with housing instability. Since this is only their 2nd review, I think it's safe to say this highly visible but often unnoticed thrift shop is definitely an under-appreciated gem here in Indy and a terrific way of supporting Good News Mission. Oh, and yes, they do accept donations. You can visit their website to find out more.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!Do not shop here unless you want to deal with bait and switch price gouging. This has happened both times I have visited this store.First, I bought a table that had a $15.00 tag on it and the owner/operator ( not sure what he is) changed it to $30.00. I let that go and paid it.Today, I came in with a very small budget. I just moved here with basically nothing and need to furnish my apartment. I also, have five adult children with three of them having birthdays this month. I found a treasure that I have been wanting to gift to my daughter for a long time but I just could not afford it. It was marked $10.00. I was so excited!! Wow! I can get this for my daughter! I asked the man at the register if I could leave it with him while I continue shopping because I needed both hands. He said sure. When I set it down, he noted it and asked me what it was because he had no idea what it might be. I told him because I was so excited!! I went on to shop and seconds later, he peeled of the price tag and said that he could not sell it to me for that. He said that he didn’t price it but “one of those guys” working here that have no idea what they were doing priced it. He would now have to charge me $100.00!! What????!!! I could buy it for that on eBay!! The truth is, he didn’t even know what it was until I (naively) told him. I did not want to buy it to flip it ( even if I did, that’s okay too) but I wanted to gift it to my daughter. This item was DONATED to him. My heart was broken. I had a bit of a meltdown. I do not do that in public!!! I usually just move on. He threw me out because I called him out, emotionally and loudly (which I regret and apologize for if he should ever read this review) and threatened to and called the police. I left.He says that they do so much to help the community and it would be wrong to sell it for so cheaply. To better serve the community he should make a bigger profit. well, sometimes, you serve the community by selling DONATED treasures unaware at an affordable price to help a Momma buy her daughter a nice birthday gift!!!! This seems so wrong and seems to be a pattern. 100% price switching every time I have visited. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I love this place! The guys are always fun to see and they have the best deals. I've never left empty handed.. in fact, I usually have so much I can barely make it home carrying it all. Seriously, they have everything and might even offer you cookies if you're nice.
