Newfields is a museum with gorgeous grounds and spectacular, creative exhibits. It offers a nice mixture of pieces ranging from glasswork and oil paintings to modern art, and African and Asian exhibitions. Docent led tours are available and recommended, as they engage people and encourage discussion to help visitors get more from each piece. There is no extra charge for these tours. Many visitors love events like the Winter Lights display, describing it as amazing and perfect for all ages, with great parking. It is a popular annual trip, though a little pricey. The experience can easily be a whole day between the indoor exhibits and outdoor grounds, as one to two hours is not nearly enough time. The café receives mixed feedback. Some note it can be super busy and the atmosphere is similar to a hospital cafeteria, with food that can be too salty. A cocktail café on the top level is a loved addition. If the main café area was remodeled, many feel the museum would be on a whole other level.
I love Newfields and am a member, I especially love events like winter lights. The only area for improvement is the café, the food I ordered was so salty I couldn’t eat it. The atmosphere in the café is similar to a hospital cafeteria. If this area was remodeled, the museum would be on a whole other level.
