Been going to Richard’s for a few years now.I have nothing but good things to say about JR,Kevin and the others that work in the shop.Recently I pulled my big block out of my chevelle and handed it to JR and boy did he deliver.motor looks amazing and clean,very nice rebuild with some goodies done to it.no metal shavings from machine work.Pure workmanship from these guys.Only thing which didn’t bother me at all was if you drop something off to have work done just be patient and let them do there thing.yes it might take a couple weeks to get your item back or a couple months to get your fully rebuilt long/short block back but rest assure it will be better than the day it was built.Again thank you JR and staff for knocking a home run on this build and as long as your still in business and JR is kicking I will always use Richard’s for my mechine work A++++

I used these guys over a year ago finally got everything back together as of today, I start pouring coolant in and there was a freeze plug missing on the side of the head tiny little guy on my ls heads but before all this I had gotten a short block and heads done that took 3 months and many phone calls and the threat of taking my work back and then I let them continue with the promise of asap and a week later I return for them to give me the wrong block and heads back then about a week later they hand deliver my block and heads to me at home due to my request of them making this process so painful for me to just have an other issue at the end of it all I’ll never return to this place

We took our BMW N54 head to Richard’s. They cleaned it, resurfaced it reseated and sealed the valves and pressure tested it. It looked like a brand new head when we got it back. We also took the block and some other parts down to have them inspect them. They are very knowledgeable. Talking to Richard about engines makes me realized how much I don’t know about engines. :). They finished fairly close to the original timeline. When I wanted an update I didn’t have any issues getting ahold of them. I will use them again. They are busy so plan accordingly.

I took my Ford 5.8 complete basket case to Richards. Had the block cleaned/bored/honed, crank turned, and rods resized. I purchased the pistons and bearings from them as you should when you have this type work done. I didn’t have it assembled to save money. I am a professional mechanic but not a professional engine builder so I checked ALL of the measurements several times to be sure with proper tools…. Not plastigauge. Everything was spot on. If you go to a machine shop and they are not backlogged with work it’s probably because they aren’t good so yes, sometimes you have to wait. I have been to many machine shops in my 35yrs as a mechanic and this is the best one still open in the Indy area IMO.
I almost didn’t use them because of bad reviews so I thought I should leave them a fair review so others could see. I also dealt with both of their receptionist. They were both very on point. I honestly don’t believe the reviews that say otherwise because they went out of their way to help me.
This was for my father in laws truck may he RIP so it was important to me. These guys aren’t kids. They have been doing this a while. It’s also VERY IMPORTANT that a machine shop has quality machines. This place has quality equipment which is why I chose them in the first place after my go to shop closed it’s doors. They have their equipment listed on their website so you can and should check for yourself.

Had our engine for almost 6 months. Would not respond to our phone calls. We then went to see Richard in person. He blamed the bad communication on his sister who answers the phones. He then promised that our cylinder heads would be completed in 10 days, and told us to call him for updates. Again he refused to answer our phone calls. Three weeks later we went to pick them up, and they had not even started to work on them. Then they tried to prevent us from taking our heads. Richard is a liar. And I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

You can not find anyone in the entire metro area to be more honest and on point with services, then Richard's. I've worked with JR and his wife since 2012. Nicest people. They deserve all the business! Efficient, knowledgeable, and very dependable. No other Machine Shop in Indianapolis for me!

Even though it took a little longer than I had originally planned, Richards did an awesome job on my cast iron cylinder head. I am very happy that they got my tractor back in the field! A replacement head was not an option for me since they are discontinued, but Richards is an old school machine shop that can still weld cast iron heads. If you have a complicated fix, be a little patient because they can get busy and they put in long hours. There aren't too many machine shops willing to do the tough stuff like them. Thanks so much Richards!

Fast turn around for a pressure test and resurfacing. A great group of machinists with friendly, customer oriented service. Highly recommended.

I took a 4 cyl. head with a crack in it here and he assured me he’s done plenty of them and it it won’t be a problem to weld and resurface it. I waited twice the amount of time he told be when it would be done to call and kept getting the run around for several weeks. It was always an odd excuse to why it wasn’t ready. Finally after several calls they told me I could come get it. I should have looked at the surface before I paid but did not until I got home. It was completely unacceptable. I called the next morning first thing to let him know my concerns of the chewed up spots and and the 2 holes in the valve seats. I was told he would call me back hoping he would make it right with me. This took 3 times before I was told that he said “it will be fine just run it it was pressure tested.” So here I am with a lot of money wasted with the leak worse than what it was before and will not help me out or even call me back. Will never be back or will never refer to anyone else in future.

Got exactly what I asked for on a set of 862 heads built for cam+boost. Quick turn around and great customer service. This shop has a good ol boy feel to it. Getting harder and harder to find. Respect gets respect. Treat them right and you'll get treated right.

Great shop. Honest. High quality. Very busy but they turn around most work very quickly. they’re not afraid of ‘complex’ jobs. And again, honest. Richards will be straight up with you. Highly recommend.
