For any east coast transplants missing a good bagel and all the classic Jewish deli food - this is your place.

It is an Indianapolis classic. Walking distance to the Colts Stadium, tons of seating, quality ingredients.

Not many of these types of places left around anymore. Freshly sliced meats on in house baked bread with home baked desserts all in the old school cafeteria style restaurant. ♥️If you come to Indy for the weekend don't go here at least once, then you wasted your trip.

The food was okay. The pastrami was really dry, drier than my liking, hardly any mustard. Mustard is key! The Reuben was really good, but had to get an extra thousand Island. Not even close to worth $20 per sandwich without sides. I'm not sure how they even think their sandwiches are worth this price. Their motto mentions modest pricing, see the placard on the wall, not even close to modest pricing!$4 for a small side of coleslaw is out of this world, I'm not sure where the term modest pricing comes in. Seems like the rent is too high in this area, and now the prices reflect it?

Well, we were told about this place. The oldest extant family-owned Jewish deli in the US. We had just pulled into Indy from a long trip from NC, and we made that the stop for dinner. 6pm or so. Nearly empty. Big place! Cavernous and empty. The food was so so. The borscht was pretty good. The matzah ball soup was mediocre. The sandwiches were big, but reminded me of the old joke, "the food was awful and they gave you so little." Except it was just ok and there was a lot. Thick with corned beef sandwich but the rye was just ok. We also had pastrami and that was the same deal, but with marble rye. What was good? The half moon cookie. (Not a black and white because it was more cake-ish than cookie.) I loved they had these and NOT the black and white. Hard to find. The lemon poppyseed was good. Not great, but good. The bagels.... Ok. Yes, end of day. Yes, we got them for the next morning, but they were still just ok.I'd go back for the bakery, sans bagels and breads.Otherwise, would not repeat.

We got take-out at the advice of some friends who we were traveling with. They raved about the place. Told us we had to go there. Unfortunately, I could not see what the big deal was. Corned Beef was ok. Quantity was the least I've seen on sandwich in awhile. Definitely not a New York deli! It was okay, but no so great as to go out of my way.

It’s hard to pass up the Pastrami, so amazing. Carrot cake is awesome.

Was looking for a good meal but was not able to even cut or chew the reuben sandwich. No one in our party will be coming back. I definitely recommend taking your hard earned money and spending it somewhere else. We all could've have had a nice steak or seafood dinner somewhere else. The 19.75$ sandwiches do not come with sides. Lesson learned on this one.

The sandwiches are tall and the people were friendly. We had a really delicious piece of chocolate cake too. The decor could use some updating.

Shapiro's is a classic, must/-go-to spot in Naptown. My family has been going to this cafeteria since the 70s and it never disappoints. Not the cheapest spot, but not bad either.Dietary restrictions: Plenty of kosher options. But, the food can be salty.Parking: Just south of downtown Indy.Kid-friendliness: Large tables for families available.Wheelchair accessibility: Very accessable for wheelchairs and electric mobility scooters.
