The people here care greatly for the animals they work with, and do their best to match adopting families up with the best fit possible. It is a great volunteer organization in this community, and a great service to the cats they help.

I feel bad for the cats in these people's care. Filled out an application to adopt a 6 month old cat and because we have 4 "large" dogs they denied us the opportunity to help this baby. Yes we have big dogs but they get along with cats. They sleep with cats. My two German Shepherds even clean our current cats. Understand before you try to help the cats in their care that they leave the decision up to the foster parent. This particular cat was at pet smart when we filed for adoption. I do not understand the process behind their decision so beware before you take the time to go through their application and get attached to one of their cats.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! We stopped by Petsmart, hoping to meet a specific kitten. The volunteers were there but wouldn't even let us look at the kitten until they had approved our application. We had been trying to get ahold of them for days but their voicemail is full and they don't respond to submitted applications. There was absolutely no way to get an application submitted or approved. They also refused to give us an application at Petsmart, to call our references, or to contact our vet, all of which we offered. It is extremely obvious that they aren't interested in finding homes for cats and would rather the cats live in tiny cages than go to a good home. Shame on them for pretending to care about these animals.

2 stars because they are friendly and they do care very much about their cats. But I do think they care so much that it sometimes becomes detrimental to their mission -- this is how we felt in our case.APA's adoption process makes it difficult to quickly get cats in homes. I understand it's in the best interest of the animals, but most other shelter's processes are a 1 hour event (sometimes less). APA has around 40 or so cats in a very small house, so the process should focus around getting cats into homes with families in the most efficient manner possible, so that APA can quickly help other cats in need -- We felt that APA's adoption process doesn't support this primary mission of most shelters. There are many other shelters where the processes are much more simplified, and less time consuming. Unless you're okay with multiple conversations, the shelter contacting references, and a multi-day process, I would just go with another shelter. We were very sad to hear that we were approved to adopt after feeling as though we were being questioned about how our children would deal with a cat and awaiting calls to our references. In the end, I found out that we were basically approved to adopt from the beginning, but because the process took so long and seemed so invasive, we had already decided to adopt elsewhere. It genuinely makes our family sad to know the cat, "Cheeto" who we fell in love with at APA has to stay in the shelter longer because of the unfitting adoption process. He could have been home 2 days ago if it wasn't for that.Posting a picture of our happy KY Humane Society Senior kitty who we adopted after feeling uneasy about APA.

This is a cat only shelter. They care for and adopt out cats and kittens. All of them are spayed, neutered, and vaccinated. The cats are as happy as they can be and are well cared for. My last 2 cats came from them and I highly recommend them.

They are home to stray lost cats and have been doing this quite well. Helped the neighbor with her cat and sure thing, it was there for a lovely reunion.

I appreciate that the staff here want to find responsible homes for the cats they take in, but it’s kind of counterintuitive to that mission when you make the adoption process so drawn out and difficult that it discourages people from adopting. Our application was ignored for over a week, I tried to call many times but I always got voicemail (which was never returned) or got hung up on. I finally got a response through email that told me to resubmit our application, then they told me they had our application the whole time and it was “still under review” reviewing what?! This place does ask for a lot more information than most shelters, but it would still only take a few phone calls to confirm that information. My references say they were never contacted. After over a week of no response, I get an email that the cat we had been interested in had just been adopted out that day. They could have told me the day prior when discussing the application that they were already moving forward with someone else and saved me the time of redoing the application at least.Overall horrible experience, theres many other shelters in the area that will actually try to help you with the adoption process rather than ignoring you.

Excellent place to adopt your furever friend! I adopted a cat from APA approximately 6yrs ago and through the adoption I have also become a volunteer. The people here are extremely compassionate about the care and well being of the cats and kittens in their care. They also have numerous fosters that provide great care for cats, kittens and pregnant momma cats until they find proper caring and loving homes. This organization prides on being a no kill shelter and have several cats who are thriving here due to not being able to be adopted out (because of no fault of their own). The shelter is clean, cats are very well and properly cared for and the volunteers take extreme pride in care of all those furry babies that come through the door. They also take great measures to make sure each and every cat that is adopted is matched well with its furever person or family in hopes they will have a long lasting final home. I highly recommend this organization for your next cat or kitten adoption! ?
