Look at the pics!! This place is not what you see online!!
This place is crooked and has became nasty!
They claim they have a secure facility yet the gate is always broken and hanging wide open for anyone to come right in anytime they want. None of the cameras work and people are always hanging out in the back of the property, making it a very uncomfortable place to be, especially since it is not lit up at all. The units leak horribly and everything is covered in mold and nasty moss as seen in the pictures, you have to fight to get your unit open or closed.
My unit was broken into over a year ago and over $3,200 worth of stuff was stolen. I paid $25 a month for insurance but it was absolutely useless. The police were called all paperwork was done and they claimed they were just waiting on the insurance to send a check, fast forward a few months later and they claimed they know nothing about it being broken into and there was no record of any report being filed even after showing them the emails THEY sent me, they claim it must have been the “other owners”. I made another report and yet the same thing. There is no way to contact anyone as the property manager NEVER answers the phone and you are transferred to a call center, even the call center can never get ahold of her. They claim they are leaving a voicemail for her and she’ll call back within 72hrs but she never calls. The only way possible way to talk to her is if you reach out to the district manager and then a few days later she will possibly call you be be very rude claiming you need to be patient and she’ll reach out to YOU “when she has the time” and that you should NEVER call her boss
If you’re late on a payment be prepared to spend hundreds. After a 2-3 days they send you an email stating your belongings are up for auction and that you owe them the rent, the late fee and the $100 fee for them going in your unit and taking pictures of your stuff to post it on their auction site. Understandable if you’re pretty delinquent but they do it after just 2-3 days and the day of your due date you are locked out of the facility. Fees must be paid in cash and in person however this facility does not have an office so you must drive an hour away to pay the fees IF you can catch someone there [chances are you’ll find a note on the door stating they left early or will be back later] so expect to make multiple trips out there.
DO NOT DO AUTOPAY!!! Your rent is subject to increase without any notice and they will just take it directly out of your account without any warning. My rent more than doubled and when asked about it I was finally told the “rent is subject to increase at any time without notice, thats part of our policy” they state it says that in the fine print on the website but I’ve looked and can not find where it says it.
Come the first on the month you see nothing but red locks on everyone’s units and good luck getting them to remove it after you pay your rent, they will tell you “we’ll get out there when we can” could be a couple days, could be a few weeks but till then you don’t have access to your unit but you must pay your rent still.
Overall this is a company that only cares about their money and could care less once they have it. The price you see online will change without notice within a couple months. This place does not protect your belongings and has been completely run down since it became SROA. Sketchy people hanging out in the back makes it very unsafe as you never know what their intentions are. I would NEVER recommend renting from this company, you’ll definitely regret it.

Missy and Nicole have been so incredibly helpful. I was locked out of my storage unit with my movers there and Missy came right away. Both of them have been very responsive and their customer service is unlike any other. I definitely recommend Storage Rentals of America 🇺🇸

The gates are always broke down. They have been broke down since October. Anybody can come inside the security Cameras of course, they're not working and the gates wide open. Since the beginning of Oct. NIPSCO has been out there 4 times and told the owners. It was not there's to fix.
So why haven't they fixed it when it's their responsibility? Anybody can come in there.. . Raise the rates a lot for people who have been there for a while. Double what they're showing on their site. I got a different unit somewhere else. Actually 2 one a 10 by 10 and 1 a by 15 for less than what they were gonna charge me. They're for their ten by twenty. And they live on site.

SROA! Dishonest, unprotective,these are just a few words that come to mind. My brother passed away, he had two vans at one of their facilities in Elkhart. I searched for these vans only to be contacted by the sheriff, looking for my brothers next of kin. I poke w the sheriff who told me one of the vans had been broken in to . When I asked about the other van. They had no clue where it was. I reached out to the proper authorities to look into this. And SRIA CORPORATE, emailed me stating they wanted to assist me in resolving this matter. That was back in June,I’ve reached out to them several times to no avail. They know it had to be someone they employ that had something to do with the vandalism and theft. The cameras just so happened not to to be pointed at that particular Angle!!! So I wouldn’t recommend anyone use them if you truly value your property!!!

Don't bother. Sketchy. Been there a few years received the phone call November 7th that our unit had been broken into. Found the front gate wide open and the security system disabled from broken power pole from a mid-october storm. Was never notified. When I arrived at my unit found the door about 2 ft open with some of my stuff preventing the door to close. Unsure how long it had been open but all the boxes have been broken and trampled on. Didn't notice until I started moving out that I was missing a trolling motor a drill press,misc. The rest was mainly personal stuff. Doesn't matter, the problem is I was never notified that the security system was down and the gate was wide open. This place is on a very busy road connecting pretty much all of Northwest Indiana with its Gates wide open. The place looks nothing like it does in the pictures it is run down and trees growing out of the gutters. Physically check it out if you're going to rent here. I wouldn't do the online thing before doing so and for God's sake don't put your valuables here.

Terrible customer service with our storage unit in Portage, IN. We have been out of the unit since June 2023 and have been receiving past due notices since, which have also been including late fees. We have made numerous attempts to contact someone via email and phone with no resolution. The time that we did make contact, we were told that we would be credited for being charged in July. We no longer have access to any gate code, so for us to be getting charged for this is ridiculous.

I’ve been a tenant with storage rentals of America and don’t have much bad to say. The staff that is in the office now are so polite, caring and professional. They are always there to assist me with any questions I have. I know Michele and I believe the boys name is Bryan. The younger boy who I believe his name was Bryan is new but so kind. And Michele assisted him when he couldn’t find my account. We got to talking and I got to know them and the boy has 3 jobs. Kudos to him for having to work 7 days a week at such a young age. I will definitely recommend this self storage company to all of my family and friends that are in need of a storage shed. I’m very satisfied with the customer service I recieve from those 2 employees. I will say rate increases would be at the top of my list for cons of SROA facilities. I think they should offer tenants a special once in a while instead of just taking more money from people who they can trust that pay there bills every month on time.

Do NOT use this storage facility located on SR149 Valpariso. They do not return your telephone calls when you need to report any issues. I have not been able to access my unit because the overhead door will not open. Have been calling for one month with no results.

We have had our storage unit in Chesterton for a little over a year. We have never had any issues inside the unit or accessing it. We like that the units are very secure with the locked gate and cameras for an affordable price. If we ever have questions, Kim Robinson has been extremely helpful and prompt in answering. Overall very happy with our experience!
