Stayed Friday evening, January 19, 2024... during a horrible snowstorm thru which we traveled! Plans were to be there all weekend while my granddaughter played in a volleyball tournament in LaPorte, Indiana.Because of snowstorm, there was question whether tournament might be cancelled. Desk clerk suggested we wait in the breakfast room before checking in until a determination was made. In meantime my daughter asked desk clerk if anything was open and she would make a run to pick up food for us, other hotel guests and staff. ONLY place open was Marco's Pizza, so she had everyone call orders in and she went back out and fought the storm to pick up food! Eventually we learned the tournament was relocated to west Michigan 20 minutes from where we live! The desk clerk checked us into a suite for the night and cancelled our reservation for Sat. and Sun. without penalty!! The two staff members working that night could not have been more accommodating!! My 16 year old granddaughter told her Mom she wants to go back there for a weekend when the weather is better!!! It was clean, cute and quaint. Almost more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel.Rooms: Furnished more like bed and breakfastNearby activities: Because of snowstorm everything in area was closed!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Heron Inn, while in the area visiting the Indiana Dunes National Park. It is located on the East shores of Pine Lake near the town of La Porte Indiana, only about a half hour drive from the park. We had a lake view room with a private balcony that overlooked the lake. The room was nicely appointed, clean and the service was great. They have an outdoor dockside bar, where we enjoyed dinner and drinks while watching a beautiful sunset.Nearby activities: Indiana Dunes National ParkFood & drinks: Food and drinks were great at a reasonable rate.

The location is perfect if you are visiting LaPorte. The facility is in desperate need of an update. I bet it was beautiful 25 years ago. The rooms are very run down looking. It is not worth the price. The Holiday Inn Express is across the street and $25 cheaper per night. However, the Blue Heron is attached to T-bones steak house which has great food and a nice bar. The service is really good at the hotel and restaurant, very friendly and helpful. Outside of an update and over priced rooms it’s not too bad. Check it out for your yourself….

I think this is my favorite hotel ever. We found it by accident and couldn’t have been happier. It’s old and beautiful and well kept and served a delicious breakfast, and the staff were super kind. In the morning I realized it was on a lake! I want to go back to Indiana just to stay there again! Also they allow pups which is always a plus ?

PLEASE SEE EDITED AREA FURTHER BELOW-- I chose this Inn over the "chain" hotels in/near the area simply because of wanting something different. My room was on the 2nd floor, classified as a "Lake View" w/Balcony. Blue Heron is situated directly next to Pine Lake, with Boat Docking, Outdoor Tables, Small Menu choice Dockside but I can't speak for the Outdoor Gazebo Bar/Eating area, tho during the Summer months I'm sure it's a Grt. Place to sit and relax. I found the grounds to be clean as well as the eating areas. Rm. Prices vary widely which I'm unsure why. Staff is friendly and attentive. Unfortunately I did leave a Ring in my rm. I didn't realize it until I was 2 hrs away on the Tollway, I called to inquire if it had been found upon the rm. being cleaned- apparently there's a "Lost and Found" area but it wasn't reported by the Staff that anything had been left behind or found- this definitely decreases the trust anyone places in a place chosen to stay. I don't recommend leaving any valuables in any room or place you rent. Left the Ring not realizing I hadn't put it on bringing my bags to my car. Check in X 4pm-Check out X 12pm.***Edited @ 11:28am. After posting this review? I received a call from Lisa stating they have my Ring which had been placed in an envelope in the Front Desk- according to Lisa, my Ring was found in the Laundry. It's refreshing to know honesty still exists in a world that seems to show more negative than the positive. Heartfelt Thank You to Lisa for calling to let me know as well as stating she'd send the Ring back to me. I'm very grateful for your honesty Lisa, as well I'm sure you can understand after our conversation why I stated my review as it was.*****Rooms: I stayed in the 2nd floor area which was accessed by carpeted stairs/halls/sitting area. A/C is controlled by a digital thermostat which I couldn't adjust. There's a small Microwave and Fridge, small automatic Coffee maker ( had 2 ask Reception for Coffee ) sugar was in the rm. Coffee, Creamer, Ice Machine, Soda Vending Machine is located in main lobby. The rm. serves the purpose it's meant for- The mattress I slept on was unbelievably comfortable- BYO Pillows, my opinion only. Bed and Linens were clean. No insects in the room. Slider to the Deck w/sliding screen worked well, View was beautiful- 2 chairs provided but no side table, yet other decks had side tables. The season is winding down so Idk. I felt safe in the rm and surrounding area. Obv. my fault for not realizing I left my ring but I must say- Somebody there now has my Ring- this leaves an issue of "dishonesty". I had planned on staying there again if I was ever out there again but due to this issue I won't. Inn is in a process of updating. Personally I like the nostalgic look. Carpet needs to be replaced. T-Bones Restaurant was packed Fri evening. Rooms and Door R opened by a regular key- the Inn is quite large. No elevators. Lower level Park View Rm had a Fireplace, Jacuzzi and VPflooring. Breakfast is offered from 7-10am complimentary.Nearby activities: Pine LakeNoteworthy details: Dogs are allowed. Must be on leash in lobby, outdoors. Kennels are not required for in rm stay.
