“I needed an unusual screw. #6 by 1 3/4 to 2 inch length. Brass or similarly colored. Countersink style. Couldn’t find anything like this at any big box or other hardware store. Ted at Ace suggested Fastenal. I didn’t know it was an option and wanted to keep the purchase local rather than Amazon. Don’t have an account at Fastenal either. I need about 350. Home Depot actually had a few on hand for about $0.70 each. Way too expensive and way too few anyway.Fastenal actually had a box in California but they were actually brass and would have cost way too much. But the guy helping me took me back to check their stock. Wow!! They had a box of exactly what I wanted (dichromate). 900 for about $70. Ok, I had to buy the whole box since they don’t split things up but even so, the cost was so low I consider it a pretty decent deal. And this after he expended almost a half hour on me. Kudos to Fastenal for going the extra yard.”
“Went to Von Tobel in Michigan City regarding a storm door because I was getting some water backup off the deck through the kitchen. I figured adding a storm door would stop the water from splashing from the roof to the door. I talked to Peter. He looked at the photo. He really looked at the door and studied the deck. He noticed that the space between the first 2 boards by the door didn't have space to let the water go down. He suggested that I really look at the boards and underneath the door before I invest in the storm door because he wasn't sure the storm door would solve the problem. I went home and realized that dirt coming off the roof had closed the space between the 2 boards. I scraped it all out and see another possible issue to fix before I test whether those 2 things fix the problem. I am impressed with their honesty and help. He could have just sold the door. Thanks Peter. Barb”
