We came here during the Galactic Gathering 2023, and it was an awesome experience! From the knowledgeable guides that told us facts about each room, to the artifacts and the stories that go along with them. We were in awe the whole time! We definitely want to come back another time so we can hear more of the stories that we didn't have time for, with everyone who was there that day. The students out front that had the remote control robot set up was awesome, and they were very knowledgeable on it! Getting to meet Mark, Gus' son, was the highlight of our trip!

We tried to visit on a Sunday, hours said they were open but they were closed sadly. Hope they can update their hours but I'm sure the inside is great and filled with history.

This place is a gem! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and there were many original pieces from Gus Grissom's childhood and early NASA memorabilia. A must stop if you are in the area.

Lots of history in one little house so good to see where an American hero grew up from such humble beginnings

The town of Mitchell, Indiana has paid tribute to their native son, astronaut Lt. Col. Virgil "Gus" Grissom, who died in the Apollo 1 fire at the Kennedy Space Center on January 27, 1967. This is the house that Grissom called home through high school. The house is as it was when Gus Grissom left for college, except the back porch area which has been made into a tribute room to his widow, Mrs. Betty Grissom. Members of the Grissom family are involved and happened to be there when I visited. Combine this with visits to Mitchell's Rocket Monument to Grissom around the corner, and the Grissom Memorial Museum at nearby Spring Mill State Park, and you have a full afternoon for an individual, a couple or a family. Then stop in for a meal at the Spring Mill Inn since you are at the park to top off the day.
