I've been a (feline) volunteer here for several years and have nothing but good things to say. I've adopted several cats through the shelter and love being able to give back. We really make an honest effort to make sure all the animals are taken care of, housing areas are clean, and our animals are healthy. I spend as much extra time as I can (while I'm doing chores) on socializing new intakes, especially if they are scared, so they can put on the charm to find a good home.I know some people get frustrated but please be patient with everyone. We aren't paid to do any of this as we all have jobs, families, and outside lives we're trying to balance while maintaining this shelter. It can sometimes be overwhelming. We're doing the best we can with what we have because we love our animals and only want the best for them. And more volunteers would be greatly appreciated!

This place is great! Nice people. So many cats and dogs to choose from. I felt so bad leaving them there. They are looking for some love. I stayed till my wife dragged me out of there. Breaks my heart to see them in jail. Please take some time to visit them. Take one home. This is Ajax. We love him.

They got some great funds to make this place spacious and nice for the animals, I know it’s come a long way to look and operate like this. Unfortunately their stray dog program is messy, their relationship with animal control seems unprofessional, I called the BC sheriff department animal control to inform them about two dogs I found running in the road, the woman at animal control asked me a couple of questions about the dogs and explained to me that she could come pick them up or she could call the BCHS to let them know I was bringing them over so the staff could come out with leashes and take them. I thought since they were already in my car and it was 10 minutes away I’d drop them off.She did not let them know that we were coming and that was frustrating to begin with, not as frustrating as dealing with Valerie running the front desk at this establishment. Valarie was very rude to me on the phone because of the confusion between the two places, to me?! but somehow did not care and wasn’t worried about not getting that call. To get the dogs “accepted” she asked me 20+ questions about the dogs breed and color and gender when I was sitting in the parking lot with them lol. I did not know all the answers because they are strays. I explained the best I could on the phone and she called me back and decided to finally come out to the parking lot to take the them. Thank goodness, Dogs all good. She told me that she would not take them without seeing my drivers license and then proceeded to input my personal information into the computer, Very weird, I’ve taken a lot of strays/ wild animals to care centers and this was excessive. She did not listen to me throughout our conversations around the dogs, she corrected me on many things I got wrong about the dogs like breed which I’m happy to know but she was just so abrasive and entitled about it. I was fed up towards the end and just said “thank you for taking them” and walked out knowing the dogs were in good hands.I have never encountered a Karen in the wild before, it was pretty interesting.Reality check, this is brown county, someone could have easily shot them, was trying to do a favor.Any ways please fix your relationship with animal control and your attitude. With peace and love<3

Wonderful place! Staff and volunteers were very nice and helpful. The facility was clean. Everyone we spoke with was very informative about the dog we were interested in to ensure he was the right fit for us. The animals are well cared for here. We love our Finnick (aka Bixby) boy! Keep doing what you’re doing everyone! Thank you!

Had a great experience here. The facility seemed decently new and well kept. Quite clean and presentable. We adopted a kitten. Was able to spend time with cat. They had a carrier, food, etc. To send home with us during the transition. They have Cats, Dogs, and more to adopt. Staff friendly.

Great volunteers and staff who work diligently to rehome Brown County's fur babies that were left behind. Great location, beautiful building and even better place to pick up your new best friend.

Rude rude rude. If you want to adopt your animals out, I would refrain from yelling at the people who come to meet the animals. And it might be good to be kinder to volunteers.
