This bank doesn't seem to care much about it's members.

My experience is simply with a checking and savings account and the following events occurred at the West Peru branch of Beacon. I don't know the quality of the other services that Beacon provides and for the longest time I had few complaints. However, recently, I needed help from the bank and they made it VERY difficult for me to do what needed done to protect my direct deposit income and prevent additional banking fees to come out at the beginning of October from my next deposit that I sorely needed. This is no surprise for a sub par bank, but my biggest complaint is that Beacon representatives expressed falsehoods to both myself and my family members and used manipulative tactics to serve their own purposes which as always is nickel and diming low income customers and not letting them use their own money when they need it. For complete disclosure, I over drafted for the first time after banking with Beacon for at least two years. I simply wanted to close the account and be sent a bill for what I owed in overdraft fees and my negative balance so that I could utilize my much needed October deposit. Most banks I've been at, even including 5/3 bank, worked with me in this same situation but I was told that I couldn't be sent a bill and the account would need to be brought to zero before it could be closed and that if it wasn't made zero before a month passed after my overdraft, the bank would take the money from the other person whose name was on my checking account. I'm not sure if this is common banking practice but I personally don't find it ethical. The Beacon representative at West Peru Beacon lied to myself and the person on my account about how long my direct deposit would take to switch to a new bank in an effort to scare me and coerce me to keep the account open. The Beacon representative told both of us that it would take possibly a month for the changes to take affect so I contacted who I needed to contact and found out that this was a lie as the changes could happen as quickly as a week. Say what you will about Beacon's fees, practices, and treatments of less desirable customers, lying committed at such an important institution in our community is unacceptable. Once again, my experience with the bank has been minimal but I would give it 1 star based on the misrepresentation of truth mostly and business practices partially.
