My family and I did Sunday brunch here today and wow. What amazing food options. We all had the mimosa flight and then I ordered a bene with mushrooms added and it was absolutely scrumptious. The biscuit was so savory and delightful I wanted to cry tears of happiness. The German potatoes had the perfect zing to them with the vinegar that they make them with. If I wasn’t so full I’d have also tried their spatzle today as well. My family are already talking about returning for Easter brunch.

Just had the Sunday brunch and I have to say it was amazing. First they brought out a basket of house made rolls with warmed jelly. They tasted like no other roll I've ever had. Fluffy and light with a great taste to them.My friend and I had the half and half which is fluffy biscuits, sausage gravy and German style potatoes. My friend couldn't finish his potatoes due to being full from the other items with it. My wife had the brisket and Benny which is basically eggs Benedict with house made brisket. She too couldn't eat it all! She loved it!The atmosphere and decor is wonderful and fun to look at. It's great to see a restaurant that makes their own pastries, breads, mustards, sauces, and far more than I can describe here! The service is top notch as friendliness and smiles was seen everywhere we looked. If you're looking for an amazing, fun place to go for German cuisine.. this is your place to be!!

My wife, 1-year-old son, and I finally went for dinner recently—we've lived near this place for years and always wanted to try it—and it exceeded our expectations. The place has a real, authentic German feel to it, and the servers are very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. My only gripe is that the place is only open a few days a week. Would definitely go again!Kid-friendliness: We had our 1-year-old son with us. The waitresses were very helpful and friendly to him. They don't have a kids menu or crayons, but our son was a little too young to care about that anyway.

Showed up at 5:15pm, they opened at 5:00pm. We ordered around 5:30pm and they were already out of the special. There were 5 other tables in the restaurant. Then when we went to order dessert (Black Forrest cake) they were out of that too. This is what my husband asked for for his birthday. They started to get busy around 6:00pm. Our food was cold and just ok.We only saw our waitress once after food was delivered so no refills on drinks. Waitresses were even confused on what checks went to what tables. When I mentioned the poor experience to the waitress she replied " I know it is crazy around here". We spent $75 for two people and didn't get to eat a single thing we wanted and what we did eat was cold and subpar. Hopefully others have a better experience than we did.

I chose this restaurant because of the menu I read online. We were planning a day trip to Michigan, so the fact this restaurant is 2.5 hours from home wasn't that big of a deal. I wanted to specifically have rouladen to honor the memory of my father in law and good friend who recently passed from cancer. They were the only two who had the patience to make enough rouladen to share with me. The online menu I was informed is incorrect, and rouladen is only served on Thursdays. Prior to coming to the restaurant, I did try calling a few times for reservations. However, I only received a voicemail. This is the reason for a 4 star review on service. The food is AMAZING! The employees hustled, and I hope the gentleman providing delightful live entertainment didn't get in hot water with his wife for staying a little later on a very busy Saturday night. Keep in mind there is nowhere to sit for 30-40 minutes while waiting on a table, and it is highly unlikely the hostess will have time to grab you a glass of wine or beer while you're waiting.

Best German restaurant I've been to. Love Moshiers but this has it beat. Everyone's food was great. And I loved the potato pancakes. Not greasy like other places. I could eat this instead of the other food. Guess we'll have to go back often.

God bless the entire front of house staff at Weiss' Gasthaus Restaurant in South Bend Indiana. My kids LOST IT just as we arrived in what is now the most embarrassing moment of my parenting to date and the staff SHOWED UP for me.As my children screamed and kicked and climbed, they took turns bringing us coloring pages, fresh milk from the deli shop, TWO SEPARATE MEALS my kids did not eat and an entire basket of rolls just for my daughter after my husband took a single bite of her roll. They cleaned spilled water as Mabel SCREAMED about her now ruined coloring sheet. Then they brought her TWO replacement pages, going as far as printing her a unicorn page special so she would finally calm down, stop sobbing, and try to eat. They assuaged my guilt and frustration when both meals they rushed to us were met with “TOO SPICY” from a 3yo who did not even put them in his mouth. And they cheered the “victory” when both kids finally agreed to at least eat some french fries. Then they came around to praise my daughter’s coloring, and my son’s smile. They doted and distracted them. One even grabbed my drink just as it was about to take the brundt of a shoved-away plate of “too spicy” applesauce. Woman after woman kept asking how they could help or brainstormed ideas themselves, working as one large team to help get me and my husband fed.And most importantly, every time I apologized or seemed close to tears, they reassured me that they had kids, they’d done road trips, and I was not a monster for existing with some overwhelmed kids in a public place. Also, the schnitzel was FANTASTIC. Seriously. I’ll remember this whole experience forever.

This place continues to amaze. Don't judge it by the outside or location. The food is what makes it! Highly recommend the Rouladen, Schnitzel, pretzels, and any of the homemade desserts. Every time I'm back in South Bend, it is a go to spot for German food.

Amazing evening meal during an overnight stop in South Bend. Busy but the ladies service was impeccable.Amanda was incredible and made sure we had everything. What you’d expect from a someone who knows how to make you feel like the restaurant wanted you there. Felt so welcomed by all the severs.Dinner was great; schnitzel, cordon blue, and potato pancakes all made us feel like we were back in Germany.Tap beer included authentic German beers and they actually had gluhwein! And then unto German desserts. There was an awesome spiced cranberry cake, typical Black Forest cake, and a delicious apfelkuchen (apple cake) that all had amazing flavors and well displayed.Stop by and enjoy but make reservations as this place gets busy and is well liked.Lucky to have found this place a few blocks from our hotel.

The best German restaurant I have ever eaten at. Better quality food and service than Berghoff in Chicago. Great fresh bakery and a good selection of German beer. This is our new favorite!

This was without a doubt the worst experience I've ever had since I've lived in this area with dining out. When we arrived at the restaurant they did not seem to have our reservations which had been confirmed through Google. When we were seated it was a table that in my opinion was much too small for 4 people to dine at. The service It was very slow and we had to ask several times for items such as bread. After waiting for quite a long time and watching other tables that had come and been seated after us being served dinner we were told that there had been a mistake with our order. We left the establishment after being told this situation could not be corrected. Not only was I disappointed but I was extremely embarrassed because I had suggested we try this restaurant.I am a black man and this situation reeked of discrimination. This establishment is definitely off my list of places to eat.
