Me and my sister were just in there and we went to the self checkout and the woman that was supervising that area immediately yelled at us saying "IT'S ONLY 25 ITEMS OR LESS I'M SORRY" with a rude and sarcastic tone we told her we were doing separate transactions and she didn't even bother to listen to what we had to say and walked off and started talking to her coworker and then looked back at us and through her hands up, sighed and rolled her eyes at us. Whoever she is needs to be talked to.

My family has been shopping with Strack & Van Til for over forty-years. Currently I spends an average of just over one-thousand-dollars per month at Strack’s Schererville, Indiana store. While I concede my patronage grants me nether special consideration nor treatment, I ought not be expected to bear the brunt of abjectly ignorant, insufferably arrogant Strack’s employees and indifferent managers. On 30 December 2023, I was summarily advised by a Strack's checker (whose name I've omitted for decorum's sake) that the half-pound of shallots I’d purchased were knob onions. I’m a 40-something foodie who's been cooking sinch childhood. I know what a shallot is. The unnamed Gen-Z checker, however, does not. What’s more, the young lady girds her ignorance in the absolute certainty peculiar to Dunning-Kruger archetypes. When I explained to her that the small bulb vegetables in question were shallots, the checker insisted: “Shallots have long green stems, like chives.”While growing shallots—after the fashion of all alliums—do have long green stems, the young-lady, in point of fact, had conflated shallots and scallions. She could not, however, be convinced of such, and argued passionately and protractedly that the shallots I was attempting to purchase were knob onions--then proceeded to charged me in accordance with her erroneous belief. Moreover, the checker set forth: “As long as I’ve been here, these have been knob onions.” If her statement was true, the young lady has grotesquely over-charged a great many customers.Anyway.Realizing the sizable line of New Years Eve customers queued behind me wouldn’t take kindly to a drawn-out drama, I paid the knob onion price for shallots, then promptly took up the matter with a woman I presumed was the Schererville store’s front-end manager. While explaining what had transpired, subject manager curtly cut me off for purpose of summarily declaring: “You can go to customer-service.”And I did, where I stood in line for another quarter-hour before being refunded the differential for what were—in undisputed fact—shallots.Mistakes are made. This I’ve understood for decades. What I’ve learned more recently, however, is that Strack & Van Til is content to hire the militantly-ignorant and task the callously-indifferent with the management of such.If you must shop Strack's Schererville store, keep an eye on what you're being charged for produce.

One of my favorite grocery stores in Northwest Indiana is the Schererville location. Two of my favorite items are Stack's freshly popped cheese popcorn & their freshly squeezed (bottled) orange juice. Even though the orange juice isn't available or sold out most of my visits. Which can be disappointing. The staff (cashier's & .deli counter workers are friendly). Prices can be slightly higher than some other well known grocery stores.

I went to the store in schererville and found their prices higher than the store I go to. I bought my favorite crumb cheese cake and it was terrible, ended up throwing it out. I went to the self check out and the lady over seeing it was not personable at all,did not know how to smile either. Wont be going there again.

Shopper beware!!! My wife was in this store today and an employee broke a bottle of red sauce all over her brand new shoes. When she reported it to the store manager (Dennis Jerome) she was told to try and dry-clean them because he "knew" it would look ok afterwards. The issue is that this was the first time she wore the shoes, and even showed the manager the receipt that she still had in her email for the shoes. Strack & Van Til should replace her new shoes with the same ones!! We will NOT be back to this store that we shop at 2-3 times per week, and will make sure everyone we talk to knows how they treat customers when their employees damage personal property.

Overall Stracks has a decent variety of products. Their produce quality is very inconsistent. Bought a bag of apples and half the bag was inedible.

Absolutely love this grocery store. There lunch area and hot bar is on point if you're getting lunch. Bakery smells so good as your walking through the store.

If you have the option to work at another job, take it. One day I told the store director that I was afraid of my friend commiting suic!de and I needed to stay by his side. She brushed off my feelings as if they were nothing and told me I had to come in. I started to cry and she said I was "bumming her out" as if it was MY fault. I should've quit right after that phone call, but I decided to stay because I needed the money. Eventually I found a better job though, so things are much better now ?

If I could give zero stars I would. The lady working the register blew her nose and didn't wash her hands or use any hand sanitizer and rang up my food. When I told her I didn't want her ringing up my food some lady who bags told me I could leave then. Unsanitary and disgusting. Don't go here of you don't want to get sick. Or Maybe don't have one of your employees working while she's sick.

Always clean and organized. Produce fresh. Best pre-made food section. Love that u can tell them what kind of pizza u want and they will make it for u right there. Then u can take home and cook. Best variety in the deli around town.

I shop here on a regular basis. The check out people are all great. I have to "clip" virtual coupons to get the discount. It's worth it for the savings. The baggers don't seem to know how to bag very well, therefore my husband always helps. No big deal as he usually strikes up a conversation with them and we enjoy the experience. Although today I was beyond disappointed at the way we were treated. There wasn't a bagger at first, so my husband started in at the same time the manager came over & said you are disrupting my flow. Threw up his arms & said you are on your own. The check out woman was sweet & apologized. I was shocked at how rude he would be. Why not say, I've got it sir or something like that. It makes me want to take my grocery money elsewhere. I'm disgusted.
