Super friendly. The car rental agencies are paired up together. You rental car is in an open parking lot, so prepare for a long walk and a hunt and find if you don't listen carefully to where it's parked.I would have given 5 stars but the return location closed at 5 PM so there was no one to return my keys. I dropped them in a box, that's not the issue. I like to get a confirmation of date and time and invoice. Otherwise, good car, decent price no issues.

We've had mixed experience with Budget rentals in other locations, but the South Bend location did great. No problems with the reservation, the customer service was friendly and fast, and our vehicle was in good shape. The South Bend airport car rental system is very convenient to the terminal.

When I arrived to pick up the 12-passenger van that I rented, I was told there were none available. I had just called the previous today to confirm the reservation. I was offered a mini van which was not large enough and the clerk gave me two sets of keys and told me to go pick the one I wanted. He could not tell me which spots they were parked in and told me to just use the panic buttons to find them. I had to walk all over the lot in the pouring rain to find them. They were parked next to a 12-passenger van. Neither were cleaned or had gas. When I went back inside to tell him there was a 12-passenger van in the lot in one of their spaces, he could not locate the information or keys to the vehicle. I was forced to take the mini van and pay for an additional van from another company to accommodate all of the passengers. The van I received from Budget had not been cleaned and had no gas in the tank. The Budget employee who was working the desk told me he did not normally work at the desk and had no ability to provide me with a reduced rate or a refund or to help me with the situation. He told me I would need to call back once I returned the vehicle to have someone handle the situation. Disaster!

Drop off office outside airport gates was closed when we arrived to return it. Found a hand-written sign to drop off at another location. We dropped vehicle there and took keys to the airport location but they did not process the return and now we are getting badgered with notices threatening legal action, our credit card has been charged with >$1,000 in additional fraudulent charges, and the agent at the airport office refused to help. "You came on a Sunday, why would you expect a manager to be here?"The minivan has been sitting right in front of their office for two weeks.Stay far away from this company.

NOT IMPRESSED and don’t intend to use Budget again. We had a reservation for an SUV at the South Bend IN Airport and when we arrived we were told they didn’t have any cars and we’d have to wait at least an hour for more cars. We were also told that they give out cars on a first come first serve basis and that it didn’t really matter what time our reservation was for because (if someone else who possibly had a later reservation)got there before we did , then they would get the car first. We did finally get a car but it was a Malibu and not an SUV which is what we paid for.I did request a refund or some compensation and they credited me $50. Just wasn’t a good experience. (And I didn’t even want to give them one star.)

Do NOT rent from Budget. Do NOT rent from Budget in South Bend, Indiana. They do not do their job and are dishonest at best and fraudulent at worst. Although the situation was eventually resolved, it took many days, lots of time, the intervention of my credit card company, and well-documented and time-stamped photos for me to prove the truth of the timely return of a car. They refuse to offer the basic service of checking in the vehicle and providing a receipt, promising a receipt through email. No receipt arrived and ongoing charges accrued for a week. Resolving the matter took significant time, and although the truth prevailed and all false charges reversed, this took significant time and energy on my part. They simply could care less about their customers, including those who are kind, correct, punctual and follow all the right steps to return a car in good condition in a timely fashion. The lack of professionalism and abhorrent lack of honesty and basic decency is far beyond anything ever experienced in customer service, and had I not fully documented with photos and videos every material detail, Budget would have stolen close to $1000 from me. Do NOT rent from Budget. i have never written a review, even when my experience with a business has been less than ideal, but in this egregious case of dishonesty and fraud I felt it absolutely important to take the time to warn others to help others not walk through the hell I did by renting a acar with Budget. Do NOT rent from Budget. Even a 1 star rating is too good for them.

Budget South Bend Airport worked great. Picked up the new Tacoma in minutes. Truck was clean and performed flawlessly. Turned it in at the Cleveland Airport, staff was super helpful. I dropped the keys in between the seats as I was running a bit late for my flight. A gentleman said not to worry that he would get them. Great service!! Thanks again. Highly recommend!!

Will never rent a car again from them. Very rude and the Toll pass was not activated and I asked 3 times, was told that it was and surprise at the Toll booth, it was NOT activated. The vehicle oil change light came on. Only 1 key and 2 drivers. Nothing was explained, and the lady who waited on me when I returned the vehicle was just as rude as the other guy. She ignored my complaint about the Toll pass and other issues while on the road. 0 stars !

There was a line when I arrived for my mid-afternoon pick up, but staff was friendly and worked to help all of us in a timely fashion. Budget wad was the only rental available when I'd booked online (and I didn't see anyone else picking up from the other rental counters while I waited in line). Ended up with a nicer car than I originally reserved, appreciated the upgrade! Drop off was quick and easy, just dropped the keys in the metal lockbox on my way to check my luggage.

I was treated so badly by budget customer service representatives.After having an almost 2 month advanced rental to pick up on the day they were closed to flooding. Note on the door with no further instructions. I'm running around in my vehicle that had issues that's why I rented a car in the 1st place. So I could attend a family event for the 1st time sense I lost 20 immediate family members in one yr. I was devastated when I called customer service and to be disconnected 3xs and chewed out by one of them where I had to ask for a supervisor. Who knew I was crying the whole time and didn't want to compensate me after the 1st representative said she would before being disconnected. Staying I should have a 3rd party rental facility call and ok that request and they don't do word of mouth. I felt I was treated like I was a liar ? trying to get something for free and no compassion or empathy was shown when it was obvious from my crying an emotional tone over a car mishap of all things that I was sincere and genuine. Something that they do for other customers on a regular for there inconvenience that they wouldn't even have to ask for. Which I was denied several times before made to feel it's a 1 time thing and It's a favor I better not ask again. The tone was so degrading and made me feel like they were doing me a favor or like I was begging. So disappointed in budget rentals do better??

Very Poor customer service - I had to wait for 2 hours to pickup the car. Also the car I reserved was not available. I was given a truck to drive. No walk through to pickup the car. And at the end I was told there is a dent on the passenger side door. As I have use Drive side door while pickup the car, how can I know about any existing damage. All the time, truck was parked on drive way on all three nights. There is no possibility of any damage when truck was parked.

Zero stars. Never rent from this location.The experience at this rental location was the worst that I have had, with no accountability. The young gentleman at the front desk without uniform or nametag, was completely incompetent, rude, and inconsiderate to everyone that was awaiting their rental pick. Not only did they not have the vehicle requested, the only worker available was a car cleaner who did not know how to run the computer system, publicly called out every person in line rude, and spent the time on his phone, texting and calling someone else saying he was dealing with rude customers. This location needs to be assessed from the top-down and should be shut down until quality improves.

The rental vehicle was not ready at the scheduled pick up time. There was only one lady working at the counter and one person working on getting the return vehicles ready. the counter lady said she had the vehicle but it had not yet been cleaned and that I could take it like that or wait until it was cleaned. I needed to leave to Chicago so it took it as it was. The vehicle was a mess, smelled like smoke. I found cigarette ashes all over the car along with marijuana residual as well. I returned to the counter to indicate I could not take it as it was and by this time, she had multiple other customers at the counter upset that their vehicles were also not ready, with the same story, take it dirty or wait. The lady at the counter gave me an alternative, to take it to another Budget center to see if they would be willing to switch the vehicle for me. I did not have time for that and I spent over an hour cleaning out the car. The car also had a replace oil warning alert, and indicate 0% life remaining. By this time I was only hoping the car would not die out on my and leave me stranded somewhere.

I will not be renting from Budget again. I left a fully fueled vehicle in their parking lot and found on the final invoice a $130 charge for returning the vehicle without a full tank. Either the Budget employee never checked to see if the vehicle was full before charging, which is lazy and irresponsible, or the Budget employee lied and tried to make a quick payday from my rental which is fraudulent. I had to call customer service twice to get the refund with my receipt for the gas confirmed. I would recommend any other agency before Budget.
