This is a classic hardware store. Like a neighborhood ace more than a big box store. The biggest difference when shopping here is the help you receive. All the workers here actually know how to use the products they sell. Not only that but they will educate you how to use the things they sell. Try finding that at Lowe's. The store is smaller so they don't have everything but I'm always amazed because they have what I need. A neighborhood shop where people have knowledge is a great local asset to have when looking to make repairs or when building a project.

This is a wonderful hardware store! My husband loves to visit because he knows that the staff will be able to answer any questions he has. They're always friendly and happy to help.

I had heard legends about how good this place was, and they did not disappoint when I came to purchase some stuff for a home project. Old-fashioned quality and service that beats any big box chain out there. Will only go here for any future hardware needs.

These guys are amazing. First time toilet repair, they talked me through it, it went perfectly. So many times I have come here with a hardware problem and they have exactly what I need and are happy to help me. If all businesses were run like this one, the world would be a much better place.

I grew up a couple of blocks from the former Minkler's Hardware on Portage. Old Mr. Minkler had everything, and free advice for whatever you were working on. The Builders Store reminds me so much of Minkler's. As others have said, it's like stepping back in time to how hardware stores used to be (and still should be). But they have up-to-date stock, including electrical. And it's a great place to get car keys duplicated, electronic fob and all. Reply to Daniel S. who wrote about needing a "spark plug for my Stihl trimmer." Most of the guys who work at the Builders Store have such a "dry" sense of humor, sometimes you don't even realize they are making a joke. When they asked if your trimmer was stolen, it was because it's a Stihl (steal). For sure.

Very helpful staff!! Answered all my question's and even understood me as I was trying to explain thing's I needed in not so technical terms!! The gentleman at the counter helped me in deciding on a different all in one screwdriver then the one I was going to buy and the one he told me about that I wound up purchasing was significantly cheaper than the one I was originally going to buy! You just don't find that kind of service in a big box store!Thank you for having patience with my girlfriend and I while we were there!
