I have been a loyal customer of this particular DG at least two years. Sadly I also have one right across the street my apartment in Chicago on 79th. I stopped going to the one I could walk to because they never honor their posted hours and they get robbed once a week.
This location in Whiting is a drive from me but it wasn’t too bad of an experience. Until today I encountered the rudest cashier in the DG empire. At 9:50 upon pulling into the lot she came to the door and LOCKED IT! As I was walking up. Worse she had a friend or coworker waiting outside that tried to tell me they always lock the doors at 9:52. Implying I was too late.
I frequently arrive at this time because I leave work at the same time. The doors have never been closed early until today. May I suggest the GM and District Manager review your security tapes and figure out exactly what’s happening with your new cashier.
If I am forced to find ANOTHER DG that doesn’t have operational issues I may just switch back to Family Dollar. I don’t expect much but honor your posted hours and NEVER LOCK DOORS ON PEOPLE WALKING TOWARD THEM. Rude. Rude. Rude. DG please investigate this happened today 4/21 at 9:50-10:00 PM.
I buy 25% of my groceries, ALL OF MY PET SUPPLIES, MOST of my cleaning supplies and certain other items like batteries. I can buy these items anywhere or even have them delivered and avoid the country’s rudest cashiers.
I believe your cashier from tonight needs a serious talk on how businesses earn and retain customers. So far she is a failure.

The lot was covered in trash. The building was messy with only 2 people working. They had stuff all over the front end blocking the self check outs. They had no heat. At least the cashier wasn't rude.

Always carts of freight in the way. I'm looking for the cashier or ringing the bell up front. Few times I drove by in the afternoon and the stores closed.

Very pleasant & attentive employees but more employees need to be hired.
Always a long wait for cashier but the business is under staffed!
Variety of goods!
Business owner needs to hire someone to keep entrance and parking lot clean.
People continuously litter the lot

By far the worst Dollar General in this area!! The “manager” Shay B. and the cashier Angelica T. were extremely disrespectful to my face. They were yelling and screaming at me and as a customer trying to return an item that I no longer needed, I shouldn’t be disrespected like that. This location makes up their own rules and doesn’t follow corporate rules! If you have any experiences like I have today, I suggest you get the employees name and call corporate! Get this trash out of our town!!!

I've been there every day waiting for the Pepsi truck to come so that I can get the six packs of bottles, and when I call no one ever answers the phone. All I want is to be able to take advantage of a sale they're running and the items are not in stock! How do you run a business and not answer the phone!

Closes when they feel like it, never close at the posted times. Either stay open or change your time. Very unprofessional.

They have very bad service, cashiers are always talking in the phone while they are taking care of customers. Cashiers are very rude and not helpful. Go to another store you will find better service and prices.

I love the Dollar General in Whiting IN. I love the new remodeling. I love their products. They pretty much have most of what I need. I loved the previous employees and managers, especially Mary. Always service with a smile. Recently, there's obviously been a change in ownership or management. Whoever is managing this Whiting store, has no idea what they are doing. The hours used to be from 8am until 10pm. Now it's a crapshoot. The store closings are now 7pm or earlier. There are many customers that rely on this store all day and especially after 5pm after work. If the new management thinks they are saving money by closing early, they need to find another line of business. No common sense. There's maybe 3 employees that work. Approximately 12 bucks an hour. They close 3-4 hours early they are only saving about $200 bucks to disservice their customers. On top of it, they leave all the lights on while they are closed. I would like to know the real reason why the "new management" and employees close the place early? It's certainly not to save money, that's absurd. I think the new management and employees are either lazy or they do not have any common sense. I heard one employee say to another "oh, we'll just tell them no business so we closing early". Really??? I've witnessed this twice. Once they told me, we closing at 4 because there is no business and then I heard them telling an elderly woman the same thing. Mind you, the elderly woman was walking on the side walk down Indianapolis with her little cart to shop at Dollar General. She went up to the door and was told, we are closing early no business. There's many customers that love that store and you're going to lose them real quick. The place was great until about a month ago. Who runs this place now? And what are you thinking? Please share. I do not see Mary anymore either, which is disappointing, unless I'm just going there when she's not. I would appreciate your reasoning behind your thought process. Thank you.
