A visit to this quaint, peaceful collection of seven villages along the Iowa River valley is a must when in Eastern Iowa. Here, you will find an extensive and engaging offering of museums and historic buildings to tour, which detail the rich heritage of the Amana colonies and the people. Shopping for handcrafted items in a good number of shops; rugs, furniture, baskets, food, fine art, jewelry, and more. Round out your visit with a meal at one of the three or four restaurants featuring hearty Midwestern fare, some with a German flavor.

Super experience! We just passed through and stayed for 1 night, the place has spirit and history, only for mid summer we felt was little less busy, we wish they would get more visitors and customers!

Had WAY too much fun here exploring all the different shops/homes. So much to see and taste. It was fantastic!!! Spent a lot of money and met a lot of great people. Take the time and go into the antique shops, they are worth it.

Nice local wineries available, two German restaurants and plenty of small local shops. I would recommend stopping if you have time. I enjoyed the German culture and we tried the food as well. There was nothing for my kids to do. They do have a unique toy store. It was a village feel with a lot of personality and walking and the people were nice as well.

Fun place to visit - several local small businesses offering unique & handmade items, good restaurants, and there is a good little nature a few minutes drive 1 mile - 3.5 mile loops. The History Center has some cool items & a short video explaining the history of the Amana Colonies. It's a good weekend getaway.

Wonderful town! I came here in early spring and will definitely come back when it's warmer out and all the plants are in bloom and grapevines are out!!

Such a spectacular place and a cultural gem in rural Iowa! Rich in history and tradition with a prideful community of residents who are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I spoke to the nicest woman at the general store who gave me some information about the community. It is so clean and pleasant. I enjoyed the browsing the general store, chocolate haus, meat shop, and the darling hotel. I look forward to going back and exploring more!

I'm not pretending to be overly excited about a visitor's center, but I have traveled all over the world and find them to be extremely helpful to learn about the flavor of the area and things you shouldn't miss. This one is a cool setting, a converted corn crib that now serves as the epicenter of Amana Colonies' information. Well-laid-out, restrooms available, and the center will be able to answer any of your questions. Information includes dates to remember, isolated items, brochures about nearby places, and recommendations about the area. Gloria was working the desk this November Saturday, and she was helpful and knowledgeable. Parking adjacent to the building.

Beautiful community. Not extremely pricey but it will add up fast. 100% worth every penny. The food and shops is amazing!!! 90% of everything there is local made or produced.

I called about a Village Van tour and Mary Lou explained there were no other people for this date & time, but she could take down my name in case someone signed up. Sure enough, they did so she called me and also explained the tour guide could pick us up at the Amana Colonies RV park. The guide was Tom, and he was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. We would never have learned so much by driving around ourselves.

A lovely peaceful place. Feels like gong back in time. Quaint stores, antiques, great German style food. Do visit!
