I travel around the entire USA and find a shop in each city, sometimes 2 , and Burgie's is my recommendation for coffee in this area. I love a good coffee so I don't drink corporate poison like Starbucks or Dutch bros. This is a solid local shop that I recommend. I got the iced honey latte with light ice, and enjoyed it

Lying to customers is permitted here, apparently. If you don't have an item in stock, just say so instead of subbing something. We caught a barista doing air quotes while saying a particular ingredient was in a drink. She didn't know we were already in store waiting as we saw and heard the whole thing. Absolutely appalling.

Go here! Delish. Here's a review from a true coffee snob. I loath bland, watery, burnt flavored coffee. Which most coffee shops have in my opinion. Especially ones that sit within or next to a gas station. Today I was desperate, staying at a hotel that says it brews Starbucks but believe me it's not like the way it tastes in a regular brick & mortar Starbucks store, am I right? Anyway back to Burgie's. It smelled like legit expresso as I went in to just get a fountain drink and fillin up. I'm thinking, just try it maybe it'll be ok. So glad I did! It was better than Starbucks and way better than Scooters! In town to visit daughter at ISU we will come back. Served hot and not lukewarm and service was great too. Anyway, need a dark roast with a splash of half and half, go here! You'll drink the whole thing and want more.

16oz hazelnut latte, iced, with a dash of cinnamon, but hold the employee attitude.Burgies at Southgate is a generally well designed coffee shop with some patio furniture inside for a soupçon of (ironic?) low budget chic. There are too many large tables and only a few single or double spaces. Coffee ranges from passable to above average quality depending on who is in charge of the pucks that day. There’s a young man that does all of the “this makes me a viral tiktok barista” unnecessary aesthetic flourishes and flashy tricks when pulling shots and always ends up pouring a gram of awful tiger stripe silt into every cup. Employees stare at their phones and talk about customers in derisive tones within earshot. They will stand around in groups staring at customers waiting at the register because “the person assigned to the POS” is apparently the only person that can operate the complex mathematics and touch screen wizardry involved in ringing up an order; and that person may be away from the desk on break, or in the bathroom, or perhaps out to lunch. Many of them can’t even explain the menu or a basic history of the company, like it’s en vogue to not know or be ignorant while representing the business. It’s never a good look to (barely) explain the flavor profile of a coffee blend by reading the bag in front of the customer asking. Professionalism and work ethic pick up when the owner is on site, but it shouldn’t require his presence to do that. I have enjoyed the coffee here for almost a decade, especially the years when Luke was pulling shots, but those days are gone and the customer service has taken a notable hit since then. Order something to go and enjoy it somewhere away from The Plastics behind the counter.

We tried the red london fog and the eggnog latte and LOVED them. Their social media is great which led us to come in! The atmosphere is definitely awkward as the drink pick up area is not in the best location. Also wish there was more seating.

I would have nothing bad to say if the quality of food, service and wait time hadn't experienced a sudden decline. At first, Burgies was producing delicious food and pretty good coffee but the food quality, especially when it comes to the biscuit, has gone down. Not only that, instead of the 4 or 5 minute wait I've been used to it's turned into 10 or 15 minutes! Especially with the longer waits good product and good service helps with the rate of return, when I've waited 15 minutes and get wordlessly handed the things I've ordered(at a quality lower than what I've come to expect) it doesn't make me want to return... why ruin a place that was a go-to?

Car is being worked on at Honda so walked over with grandson to get a bite. Chai was very bland. "Grilled" cheese is oven heated. Told it was a "toaster" oven, but texture and taste suggest it was microwaved. Soft and mushy bread with rubbery cheese. Big disappointment.

Don't be fooled by the exterior appearance. Burgie's has really good coffee and surprising amount of seating, since they are in a space attached to a gas station. We didn't try the food but they have plenty of items on menu including breakfast and lunch options.

We love Burgie's. Service is great, food is delicious. Inside can be a little noisy, but the fire is nice in the winter. My favorite thing to get there is a Jamocha shake, but have them add carmel instead of chocolate. It's not on the menu, but it's so good.

I've been coming to Ames to have my car serviced for years and saw this place but never came here because it's a coffee shop at a gas station and I had no idea how great it is. Now I'm regretting all the times I waited in the car service lobby waiting for my car when I could have been here. Nice ambiance, yummy breakfast food. I was a bad vegan and had a breakfast biscuit with only one vegan ingredient (spinach). The brewed coffee wasn't the best but I blame myself for ordering it as places like this I find it's safest to get espresso drinks. Will definitely return.
