Check in was easy and so was parking. The staff at the hotel and restaurant were great, however we had an appetizer that was a warm corn dip and what appeared to be stale doritos served with it.
Also, the beds are firm and the pillows are very small.

I know the location is convenient however this hotel is trash. While moving our daughter in over the weekend we had to lift up the toilet and press the pump down to flush, the comforters were filthy, and the tv randomly stopped working. When I tell you we will NEVER stay here, I mean it. All of this and we were offered two breakfast vouchers. If I could give zero stars I would but I had to rate in order to write the review. Run!!!! Don’t walk!! Find somewhere else to stay.

Good cost-benefit ratio in terms of prices and not to mention that it is located near the University of Iowa, famous for its meat innovation and processing courses. It is not luxurious but it is functional, not to mention that there is transportation to the university

Stayed here for my son's orientation days. I simply love it. The staff is welcoming, the amenities are wonderful, and the rooms are amazing.

My wife and I used the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center to host our wedding reception! We really appreciated just how many things the venue provides, from food to linens, to table setup and planning. My wife and I had access to the venue with ample time to do what little setup we had left after staff had already setup tables, chairs, and centerpieces. Our only drawback was that communication was occasionally lacking during the planning process. Emails frequently needed follow up emails, instead of timely replies to our questions. Overall, we would recommend using the Gateway, and we wouldn't choose to host our reception anywhere else!

Was a 5 star place but now a 1 at best. My wife and I alway try to stay here while traveling for work. Your policy of not honoring a state rate because of having other state or county employees staying there is ridiculous.

Room was okay. Bring your own water because it’s expensive at the hotel. The restaurant was good with friendly staff and a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape (I wish I took pictures especially of the trees). We stayed here for a graduation at Ames High School and it was conveniently located to the venue which was nice.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel this past weekend and while the room we were in looked very nice and had clearly been updated somewhat recently, the room itself was just not comfortable. When making our reservation we selected a standard room with two queen beds. The number of beds wasn't important to us but we were expecting at least one queen size bed and we're shocked that our room had two full size beds. My husband and I had booked the room very last minute so we tried our best to make the best of the situation but the beds were also incredibly hard and uncomfortable. Within moments of laying down our backs and hips were aching. We are also both fairly broad and the size of the bed left us no room to roll over. The pillows provided in were shockingly soft in comparison and left us with feathers in our hair.
The bathroom also had a barn door but the trim in the door frame was too thick and left a huge gap essentially rendering the door useless.
