About Prairie Flower Children's Center
Prairie Flower is an independent, non-profit nature-based early childhood education center in Ames, Iowa, that has been serving families for over 25 years. We offer a year-round co-op nature preschool program for children ages 3-6, an after-school program and summer camps for children ages 5-12, and a parent-child playgroup for children ages 14 months-3 years. We strive to create a warm, nurturing environment where children spend as much of the day as possible outdoors, forming a connection with nature and learning through play. Our curriculum is largely child-led and holistically seeks to meet the needs of the whole child (physical, social, emotional and creative, in addition to cognitive).

Prairie Flower is an excellent place for kids to learn about nature and step away from the fast paced digital age we live in. The kids spend plenty of time outdoors and learn many skills that come with that. The staff is friendly and the classroom is welcoming.

My daughter has a big imagination and loves playing in the woods so Prairie Flower has been a perfect fit for her. I love knowing she's experiencing the beauty of nature and I believe it's taught her an appreciation for all the seasons that she will take with her throughout life.

Prairie Flower has been the best decision we could have made for our child! They get to be outdoors almost every day, learning from nature and interacting with kids the way childhood was always meant to be! My child’s confidence has grown so much and it has been amazing to witness. Highly recommend!
