About Sand Hill Preservation Center

Sand Hill Preservation Center is a wonderful business with a fantastic mission. It is operated by a friendly two-person team who are very helpful. They are primarily preservationists, not a typical hatchery or seed company. Their focus is on preserving a vast genetic repository of heritage breeds and heirloom vegetable varieties, many of which have no other source. They offer a wide assortment of poultry, including chickens, ducks, and geese, as well as seeds for corn, watermelon, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other keeper varieties. The ordering process is different from others; it requires patience and following the directions on their website. Communication is good, and while shipping may not be the fastest, the quality is excellent and the price is reasonable. Birds arrive in great shape, and seeds are acquired successfully. They sell out on some breeds, so ordering in winter for spring is suggested. Their assorted bird mix is a great deal and they honor specific breed requests. The catalog is a great source of information with descriptions like no other. Overall, customers have never had any issues or problems with their orders over many years. They are seen as filling an important niche, working very hard to provide historical genetics for little money. Many are grateful for the opportunity to order varieties they cannot find anywhere else and will continue to support them.
