Shelley took her time - allowed me to ask questions as we went through training and made sure I understood each aspect of training and where to go for more information and of course free to call West Side anytime with questions.

Had a wonderful experience selecting my new machine and with the 4 hour training session. Marcie was a wealth of knowledge and was great teaching me many things about it so I could get started enjoying my new purchase. I’m especially excited about all the classes offered for free and others to explore my new machine and learn!!

I had been having a lot of trouble with my handiquilter long arm. I had taken it to another certified repairman and it just kept skipping stitches and breaking threads. I took it back to him and he said I needed to change thread, wind my own bobbins, oil, etc. All the things I already had tried. After that trip it still broke thread and skipped stitches. I decided I needed to try someone else. I'm very happy to say, I just completed my first quilt in over a year with no skipped stitches and no thread breaks. I'm very happy with the repairman at West side sewing in Cedar Rapids. Thank you once again!

I have recently purchased a new sewing machine from West Side Sewing. Shelly S took the time with me to show me different models. She worked with me for my trade in and financing. I received one on one training which I was very impressed with. West Side Sewing is not just about selling it is knowing your machine with the features that it offers and also having fun teaching all the different sewing techniques. They also have a number of classes at the location. I can't wait to take some of the classes and learn more. Thanks again Shelly S and Shelley very much appreciate it. If you get a chance please stop by and visit them! You will not be disappointed.

I have been purchasing machines and sewing supplies from West Side Sewing for a few years now. Their customer service is always fantastic. Shelly has been more than willing to work with me on large purchases (longarm and software equipment) to find the best financing and trade in-options. They take the time to tailor trainings to your needs and are always available if you have any questions. I highly recommend them!

Not only does West Side Sewing sell excellent machines and accessories, but the entire staff is extremely supportive and dedicated to product education. I’ve attended many classes, and have learned so much about sewing styles and all the steps and things needed to create fun items.

I have purchased a Husquavarna Topaz 50 from West Side Sewing and received personal training to use my machine. I had recently enrolled in classes for additional embroidery techniques. Shelley was able to help me and guide me on my computer to where I am able to continue in my class. This personal touch helped me to continue my sewing journey. I highly recommend West Side Sewing.

I have been with them for many years and purchased a few machines through the years. I like the 1 on 1 training to get more personalization for any questions I have. They are always helpful after purchase too for any questions.

I've bought a few machines through the years and have always appreciated the 1 on 1 training. It is more personal and can easily ask questions when you have them. After training, any questions that arise they will also help you with. All the staff is helpful.

I have been a highly satisfied customer of West Side Sewing for over 25 years. I cannot say enough good things about their top quality products, highly knowledgeable staff and outstanding service team. Over the years, both my mother and I have purchased numerous sewing and embroidery machines, sergers, notions, machine feet, patterns, thread, fabric and other sewing accessories from them. In addition, we have attended many informative classes and enjoyable events sponsored by WSS. On the service side, we credit their skilled service department for keeping our machines in perfect working condition, and on the rare occasion when more than routine maintenance is necessary, finding the root cause and fixing the problem as quickly as possible. From the first time my mother and i walked in, we were treated as valued customers and friends, whether we were purchasing a top of the line machine or just stopping by to say hello. For all of these reasons, whether you are an experienced sewer or just starting out, I highly recommend West Side Sewing for all of your sewing needs.

First off, let me say that I've never personally spent a nickel here, but my wife has. I have, however, browsed fairly extensively because I've been able to sew by hand and with a machine since I was a child.I have to say that this is probably the worst sewing shop my wife and I have ever been in and I don't know why we keep going back. We have tried shopping there quite a few times in the last two years, probably half a dozen or more. We know several people that used to shop and take classes there fairly regularly but they stopped recently as well. We think it's important to shop locally to support small businesses and we like to look around when we do. We prefer Inspired to Sew but it's usually on the crowded side so we do give West Side a shot every few months. I've never seen more than a few people in West Side at a time other than classes, which generally makes it a breeze to browse. I like looking at the machines and how far they've come in 20 years. We've really been impressed with the Viking machines, but not so with the staff. They're pushy as all get out, especially their manager/salesperson, Shelly. She's very quick to try to talk to you about the machines, but she doesn't listen to what you have to say. We have an old electronic Viking from around 2002 or so. Still mostly works but it's outdated and definitely ready to be retired. I want to try getting into embroidery, so we've been discussing getting a new machine. Well, we won't be buying it here. We'll probably just go to Vinton. In two years, the shop hasn't changed much at all. Always the same fabric, always the same fixtures and layouts. My wife was looking at fabric and it had been there so long that the fluorescent lights had bleached it! How long do you think that takes? She left and found better options at JoAnne instead. On the other hand, she says there's been lots of staff turnover. I asked a couple of our friends about that and they confirmed. Two repair technicians and at least one sales person have left in the last year.I don't know what's going on with this place, but it always feels run down and dingy. Dirty air conditioner vents and burnt out overhead lights. I'm not sure we'll ever go back at this point.
