My dear family member, who has dedicated a lifetime to being a compassionate health care worker, presented to the ER in dire health last week. Already dealing with the hardships of metastatic cancer, they were treated callously by some of the staff members. Noting a dirty environment that had not been cleaned in what appeared to be days, they asked for a blanket since it was freezing cold (with recent snowfall accumulation of 20"). My family member was refused a blanket. Ridiculous. She had to ask around until she found someone who would provide one for her. While waiting to be admitted, she asked for water and was not given any despite asking repeatedly. Again, this level of care is horrific. It is likely that staffers are stretched so thinly that they cannot even meet basic needs, let alone more complex needs. After being admitted for one night, my family member was discharged even despite asking to stay. She was sent home after being told she was okay. She was not okay. In fact, the health care team in IC (who she saw two days later) noted that had she gone on in the manner in which she presented--for just another week--she would have died. She was dangerously weak and depleted. Even if Genesis didn't have the means to run the necessary labs or services, it's shocking that staff would not escalate concern for such a clearly vulnerable patient. When she presented, she was a shell of her former self - unable to eat, drink, walk, and barely speak a full sentence. Sending her home with no clear path for where to go next or connecting the dots that she needed expert care -- absolutely appalling!.It is evident from the abysmal level of care that the system is broken. I sympathize that the health care workers are part of a broken system, and are all struggling within that system with staffing and communication issues (among other issues). However, I would not recommend anyone bring their loved ones here. There is too much variation across the board with quality and safety, it seems. It is essential to advocate for yourself and your family member: communication is everything!I say this as someone who used to work at this institution (several years ago and in a non-clinical role). Back then, I would have recommended anyone to receive care here. Truly, there are *many* standout employees who are doing their best and who are the saving grace in an otherwise poor experience. But what is going on there? In another case with another dear family member who was admitted to another unit, the post procedure care they received was also abysmal. We had to constantly walk the halls looking for staff to answer our questions. It's very difficult for me to write an unfavorable review knowing full well that health care systems are flawed and that staff alone cannot be blamed for what is a structural issue. I write this as family member watching her loved ones suffering and meeting additional barriers to safe, compassionate care. It's disheartening to say the very least. Please address these structural issues. Provide the compensation and support these health care workers need to do their jobs. We are all on the losing end.

This place is a joke will never go here for any type of emergency they really do just leave everybody out in waiting room area and treat you from there. Went with my mom at 10 am they came and got her to do blood work then brought her back to lobby and left her there all day. She wet herself after no one would help her to the restroom and then no one helped her after her accident didn’t even call one of us kids just left her there until 8 pm when they figured out she had a severe kidney infection sent her home. What a lack of professionalism and compassion

My primary concern is with the ER. The wait was horrendous as I was in 8-10/10 pain but when I did get a room I noticed dripping brown stuff on paper towel dispenser. When someone came in my room I mentioned it. The rn acted all put out to clean it. I also reported the clock didn't work. "that's not my job". Ok, can you pass it on to the person who IS responsible then? She left and yelled at the staff about me, came back in with another rn and escorted me out the back of the room to the waiting room. I was supposed to get an anti inflammatory and a muscle relaxer but didn't because I was escorted out. Seems cruel to me. I finally got admitted for an overnight stay for pain control once on the 5th floor it was glorious. That being said... Holly and Nikki are absolutely amazing RNs in the ER so please don't lump them in with the rest of the staff. I just didn't get injured on a day they were working. ?

Make sure to get here 15 minutes early so you can wait an hour or longer.

My grandfather had to stay here for a bit after a massive health scare. The staff, nurses, and doctors were beyond amazing. He still talks about all the nice faces he saw during his stay.

This place is a JOKE! Had to come here for my mother. She was in ICU and was on her death bed and wouldn't let everyone come and say good bye. They tried to say she had covid. She was Incapacitated and I had to make all medical decisions. I asked for proof of the covid and a retest and they said no. Got her out to hospice and they said she didn't have covid. The lies and pain this place has caused is ridiculous. Dont come here!

The ER staff and others were wonderful. They saw my husband was in serious health and got him right in. They asked me several times if I was ok . I'm sorry to say I didn't get names.

I am here in ER for some emergency medical treatment. It has been over 3 hours, still waiting in the waiting room. I know this is not a mistake of staffs or doctors working here today. It is the failure of our medical system. Here people are still waiting who came even hours before me, so I don’t know should I continue waiting or look for alternative with my pain growing every minute. If this is the situation of one of the most prominent ER in the town, we can imagine the situation of others.Medical system in this country is so pathetic and painful that a significant number of people have started medical tourism to other countries like India. My question is, if they can do it so efficiently why not we? I have heard similar stories from many friends and their family members across the country.Who should introspect on this situation, a citizen like me or at the level of policy makers or doctors/staffs or hospital institutions?I want to request the concern body to make it better before the frustrated public burst their pain and emotions to make it further worse.— A responsible citizen crying with pain in your ER waiting room. And finally walked out without treatment after 5 hours of wait

This hospital is not the place you want to go if you care about your health and family. Please bring your family elsewhere they make all patients wait an entire day before addressing the issue that you are there for. I’ve stayed there a couple times before and they’ve naturally always ignored my requests and I have been nothing but kind and patient. They take their time because they are there all day. There is no system to seeing all the patients. Half of them on a regular leave to go to another hospital so save your day and do so. They let a child with a gushing face with risk of brain injury sit there for 6 hours before even being called, then abandoned in the room with the light on. Then they tried to contain me inside the building until I checked out after I explained how I haven’t put any food or water in my system and if I didn’t leave now, I wouldn’t safely get home. They completely ignored me only continuing to make it less difficult for themselves. I get the business, I’m a licensed professional in the medical field too. But this is true cruelty. Genesis hospital is truly not the place to find hero’s.

My daughter-in-law had a traumatic delivery on 10/20, Friday. My newborn grandson became ill, so, he wasn't discharged on Sun, 10/22, but momma was. Momma was told she would get a tray since she was staying, but nurses refused her this necessity. She went over 24 hrs without food or drink, except water. Is this Genesis idea of a 5-star hospital? Momma call nurse with a question & response was rude, as if her concerns weren't important.

Would not recommend having your baby here. Ended up having my c section unmedicated because the anesthesiologist ignored my concerns of my epidural not working. This has caused extremely bad trauma on both my husband and I. This could’ve been avoided but instead when I told them that I felt my skin being cut and ripped opened he told me I was lying. This was 2 years ago and it’s took this long to finally talk about it without having extreme anxiety attack. I’m now pregnant with my second and NOT going to this hospital! Im terrified of delivery this time around because of the trauma that was caused here!!

They didn't know what they were doing. Treated me for cardiac problems when I was brought in, in a coma from MS meds. MS is in the head, not the heart. Was put on meds that the side effect was damage to limbs. Guess what, 2 years and I am still trying to walk ok again. Doctors are NOT safe. One nice nurse tho, the rest were Ava Hitler. The hospital has made me loose all faith and trust in doctors. I trust 2 doctors they are pissed about why I needed up there and why I was put on dangerous meds when having MS.Please note I tested COVID negative until 13 days later when it was time to leave, then tested positive. Got home didn't have COVID. Just like they wanted me to go to a nursing home. Wife told them off and we left. Note wife and daughter are both CNA's but they didn't like that. Imagine that, treat my condition wrong possibly harming me for life with the wrong meds, then tell us that the jobs they are trained for are not good enough, but need to be in their loop 90 miles from home. Arrogant to say the least. And no, sorry doesn't cut it. I can no longer even try to work.

My dad went there Sunday night cause he fell. We sat in the waiting room for 1 1/2 before they finally took us back. We ask several times for a update and we never got one. He had to be flown to Peoria because they didn’t have a doctor there to help him. It’s pretty bad you don’t have the doctors there that could help him and he had to go to Peoria for help.

They are sooooooo slow. We showed up 15 minutes early to a CT and they didn't take us back until 40 minutes after the appointment time... to another waiting room. Then waited another hour and a half for the scan. Another time, when the procedure was over, they had us waiting for over an hour to take out the IV, then had the nerve to insist that we wait for discharge to escort us to the front door. We knew exactly where we were going (because it really wasn't complicated), so we just left, then they tried to stop us until the lady at the front desk said it was fine to leave on our own. Their only redeeming quality was the friendly staff (although clearly not all of them).
