I had a car rental on 1/31 pick up and when I got there the Avis gentleman was not there and someone from the airport had to call him and guide her through the process. I was there at 8:15am which is when my car rental was scheduled for pick up and it was within their office hours. My return on 2/2 I returned around 8:15am and again was within their office hours as I had several questions and wanted to speak to someone face to face. no one was at the counter and i just had to leave the keys in the drop box. i am extremely unhappy with this process. I then got a certified letter in the mail dated 2/9 that i had to sign for. it said that they were demanding i return the rental car that was due back on 2/2. they checked the system and they aren't sure why i received the letter since they have record that the car was returned on 2/2. they asked if i received an emailed receipt and i definitely had not so had her email it to a different account. finally got that. hoping this doesn't come back against me in any way. the rep was going to note it in her system that i called and that everything was correct and i should not have gotten the letter.

NEVER rent from this location. I rented a car in June '23 and they were over 2 hours late getting me a different (and dirty) car. A family in front of me was also two hours late because their reserved car wasn't ready and were trying to drive to Boston.In January '24 I rented a car for one day. No one at the counter, the custodian had to come and rent me the car I had reserved. I returned the car 11 hours later and dropped off the keys in the box like I was told.Four days later I received a text that the car was not returned. I drove to the airport and it is sitting in the spot where I left it (which is the same spot I got it from). I called Avis and let them know this. The next day, the contract is still showing as open and I am wasting time on the phone because I was charged an additional $340 for the car sitting 15 feet from the door of the rental station because there is no one there to check the car I returned 5 days ago.

Waited for hours to get a car and nobody was at the counter. Called and was told someone would be there in minutes. Then nobody would answer on repeat calls. Hands down the worst customer service I’ve seen

Run away worst place ever no one answers the phone went to return the car waited half an hour no one was there apparently upon pick up waited 15 mins for the lady texting on her phone even after saying excuse me and was ignored run away far away from this place shouldn’t have to fight for my money back and the extra money they are trying to charge me for days I didn’t have the car

I wish you could give no stars. Stay far away!!! If you need a rental go somewhere else. Car was extremely dirty inside and out, it had a musty smell with water stains and dirt all over the seats, and a shoe wedges under the driver side seat adjustment bar. I went back in and told the guy at the desk that it was dirty and wasn’t ready to go and he looked at me like I was crazy. Had to practically drag the guy away from the desk to go out and look at the car. All he did was wipe out the cup holders that were filled with gunk, said sorry about the shoe, and said it was ready. I said fine since it’s the only rental place in the small regional airport and I didn’t have any other choice. When we finally got all loaded up and I started it up I noticed there was only. 1/4 tank of gas. Went back in to talk to him again and he was gone and had closed up shop. Go figure. When I returned the car the same guy was there sitting on the edge of the baggage claim carousel and he would not check us in and give us a receipt. Told us to put our keys in the drop box. What??? I filled out the paperwork, told him the car only had a quarter tank of gas when we picked it up and that I didn’t fill it up when I brought it back. It was 3/4 full when I returned it. He said he would take it off the bill. Right!! Got the bill and he didn’t check the car back in until 2 days after we returned it and I was charged for them filling it up, which I’m assuming they didn’t do. What a Joke. I’ve been on calls with customer service 4 times to get everything resolved. Next time I will Uber to another car rental place or gave someone pick me up. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!

My car was in the shop for about a week due to repairs and I used this company for my rental car. Needless to say, it was an awful experience. When I went to pick up the car, no one was at the desk. The number they had available for customers was the same number that is connected to the phone at the front desk; how are you going to answer a phone you can’t hear? I had to reach out to an airport employee so they could reach the front desk, and even they had troubles getting in contact with the Avis employee. After about a 15 minute wait, they showed up.When I made my initial reservation, I wasn’t sure the exact amount of days my car would be in the shop and I made them aware of that. They told me if I needed to extend the reservation it would be no issue. When I called to make that extension I was on hold for about 20 minutes, no one ever picked up. I decided to go in to the airport to just talk to an employee. When I go in, no one is there, and the number they give is still the number that is connected to the phone at the front desk. I was not able to get my extension.Even if you have to use this company as a last resort, keep looking.

It seems this branch is still not fufilling its obligation to get people in their paid for rentals ontime. Is posting a bad review the only way to get satisfaction? As of 8/22/23@1500, I have been waiting since 11:30. Nobody at counter, no signage saying when somebody will back. When you call the number it rings the desk phone then rings through to customer service. The young lady told me to go to another branch!!! Really??? 50+ miles away in Davenport. How am I to get there? I dont have a vehicle!!! Totally unacceptable. I am a disabled veteran, not that this matters anymore in this world we live in now!!People rent these vehicles for a reason. We need a vehicle to get somewhere.Avis needs to implement a plan that when a branch desk is unmanned, the agent that is leaving the location needs to call into the service line to inform them about the absence. This way the system can show anyone who attempts to place a reservation at these locations that the desk is unmanned at that time and when it will be remmaned so the customer can arrive to pick up the rental. This is just business 101. Keep the customer informed. There is no excuse for this.

Call this place at least a half-a-dozen times no one ever answered went to the airport terminal because I did not want to make a reservation and get my money trapped only to find another gentleman in that exact predicament money trapped and maybe had to travel over an hour to get an available vehicle I guess I'll just skip this place. Spent twenty bucks to go to the airport for nothing and wasted a day I think I'll pass AVIS

Worst experience ever!!! Stay away from this place! Showed up 10 mins early to check in. No one was available and for 30 mins after. I had made my reservation days in advance. I called customer service and they basically told me there is nothing they can do. I had to go over an hour to get an available rental at a different company.Thanks a lot Avis.

Had a 9am pickup notified at 815am that car wouldn't be ready till 1030am At airport at 1010 am no one at desk , I called # and guy says 11am. Well it's almost 1130 and Noone here so I again called and now says at least 20 min. Terrible service here and I am requesting a 1 day refund. Will see how long before we get our vehicle. Yes this was at Dubuque regional airport and not 1st time we've been delayed

Had us waiting for an hour along with 2 other parties just to tell 2 of us we can not rent a car even after having reservations .One would think they would have denied us when we made reservations instead of having us drive 45 minutes one way to turn us down. Oh well life goes on. Thanks again

No one at the counter when we arrived. Then the single ID scanner was broken, and was informed there was no other way to rent. Employee was unwilling to call corporate or escalate to resolve, etc.

Horrible rental experience. The Honda we received was clearly in a recent front end collision with minor repairs attempted to be completed (not well). There was also hail damage all over the vehicle. On top of that, the rental agent did not verify the credit card to be used from the account and just picked one to charge (the incorrect one), resulting in a call to Avis customer service.

I had a pick up time of 9am. I got a call and was told they would not have a car available until 10:30. I got to the office at 10am hoping to get a far. There was no one at the office. They finally got to the office at 11:20! No apologies at all!!! I finally get my car and it still has trash in it from the previous renter and only 1/2 tank of gas. Needless to say, I missed my work meeting and still not even a slight apology or anything. I don't know if this is the norm for Avis but I would try to avoid the Dubuque Airport office at all costs.
