Backbone State Park is a beautiful and historic park, known as one of the oldest in Iowa. It offers fantastic hiking trails, including the East Lake and Bluebird trails, which provide lovely views and opportunities to see wildlife, such as eagles. The park features a variety of camping spots and picnic areas, making it a great place for outdoor activities. Although the public bathrooms are mostly pit toilets, there are nicer facilities available. The park is dog-friendly, allowing visitors to bring their pets along for the adventure. With its stunning natural beauty, especially in the fall, Backbone State Park is an excellent destination for hiking, wildlife photography, and enjoying nature in a quiet environment. Visitors appreciate the safe surroundings and the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether for a day trip or a longer stay, the park offers a wonderful experience for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Backbone State Park is another beautiful park in Iowa, complete with a castle. There are beautiful maples and Aspens and Oaks. It's a large park that you can drive through or hike the trails, lots of camping. It's very beautiful with rivers and creeks. Spectacular in fall. I photographed an eagle.

This park is always an incredible spot to take pictures! Great get away. It's usually pretty quiet with low traffic. I would highly suggest this place for wildlife photography, hiking or nature lovers.
