Bought some small critters and accessories. Was pleased with the knowledge of the staff. Plenty of selection. Dog obedience class was going on while we were there.

If I could give this store 0 stars I would. Spent 40 minutes waiting for service, when asking an employee that was doing nothing (KC) she was very rude and told us to wait until another employee was done doing truck. (Truck drops the trailer by the way, it isn’t like the truck driver is waiting for them.) When we went and found the other employee, both of them were sitting there chatting. They then proceeded to sell us fish that died within hours of being in a perfectly cycled tank. Refused to give us store credit back (40 dollars in fish by the way) without a water sample. They were extremely rude to us about it as we tried to tell them we live 45 miles away and can’t just run back and get them a water sample. They told us “we can’t do anything. sorry.” TLDR; POOR SERVICE, RUDE EMPLOYEES AND HALF DEAD FISH!

Fish Nazi Alert: A dark haired, scruffy young fellow refused to sell me a particular tropical fish (common Pleco) at the Mason City, IA. location the afternoon of Jan. 29. Based on the size of the tank I was going to introduce it into, and ignoring the fact that I have been raising such fish for well over 20 years, he would not let me purchase one. I spoke with the manager on duty, but he sided with the employee's "expertise". There are not a lot of options for pet fish in this area, and I doubt the loss of all future business from me or those who value my advice will make a significant impact on your sales, but I will make my dissatisfaction known to all. My dogs, cat and three reptiles are sure to agree. Good bye, Petco. No Bouillabaisse for you! This individual has also been noted telling customers how many fish they must buy (so they don't get "lonely"), and other advice that the purchaser would be in a better position than he to ascertain. Who does business like this? I appreciate well meaning advice, but to flat out refuse a customer is not a good business practice. We are not adopting human children here, or even puppies. It is a fish!

ok this review has absolutely nothing to do with the staff. there is a gal there my family absolutely loves super friendly and personable everytime even on a bad day. the only bad thing I have to say is crickets that's how my little gals survive and they never have any. i have to drive hours to get some for a multi million dollar company you think they could pay for fast shipping so their feeders don't all arrive dead

The Mason City Petco is so dirty and unprofessional stay away. My dog and I have shopped there since 2021 because that is the only store in my area that will allow as far as I know my pet to accompany me. We've never had a problem until two weeks ago when I was buying another harness and leash And got a little dizzy with my head down, holding my puppy when we had her harness off and asked for a chair they sat me known to me at the time over by a cat that was not in a properly enclosed cage the cat stuck a white leg out. That's all I saw Now the cats missing a foot I can't get records on that cat of vaccines. I don't know anything about it they scream they yell I have an attorney they won't take his number. They called the cops my dog is licensed they should know that from the chip, I have a young lady named Claire, who has called me, and in a tone of voice that Sounds as if I were guilty of something squalid I had to hang up when I asked her to talk in a civil manner. I have a heart condition I'm not supposed to get upset. Petco talks about maintaining a healthy wellness program or nothing healthy about Petco and nothing well about Petco certainly not training with their employees, we'll see how it works out in the end and is not here yet. The cat apparently has had extensive medical bills and I believe Petco is responsible to pay them because Petco made the choice to put the dog and I buy the Security animal, which was a cat they think I'm responsible what do you think?

Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I found what I needed and had a great conversation with staff. Will definitely come back to shop for pet items.

Kaley M and Emily J from the Mason City Iowa store need to be recognized. I have been dealing with the Petco application issues for over a year. The company themselves could not help me. I have had coupons for free dog food from many past purchasesThese girls worked DILIGENTLY until they fixed my account. They are gems and did not have to do this. I hope you reach out to them as they went above and beyond!

Kayley the manager is AMAZING! she was MORE than helpful and very knowledgeable! Even willing to teach me a few new things about different reptiles I haven't owned yet. It's a 45 min drive here and only a 10 min drive to my normal pet store but I will be coming here from now on!!!
