The Muscatine Mall, once a thriving shopping destination, has fallen into a state of disrepair. Despite its current condition, the mall still holds a sense of community for local residents.
While many of the shops and businesses have shuttered, the mall remains a popular spot for walkers, with a group of "regulars" who enjoy the indoor space, especially during inclement weather. The building still houses a few long-standing shops, such as Jo-Ann Fabrics and Osaka Sushi and Grill, as well as some newer additions like a furniture store, flooring, a martial arts studio, and a baseball card shop.
Though the mall's former glory has faded, there is still potential for its revival. Suggestions have been made to transform the space into a health and wellness center or an indoor senior living facility, with some shops remaining for convenient services. While the current state of the Muscatine Mall is a far cry from its heyday, the community's continued use and interest in its future suggest that there may still be life left in this once-vibrant shopping center.
