I came to Iowa to take care of my aunt and uncle so I am not familiar with the area and the only place close is dollar general in Sheffield IA. I went to this store frequently during my stay just returning home this past week. The store itself was OK at its best. But… the staff needs some work. From what I noticed there are maybe 3-4 women that rotate there and now 3 males. The manager I believe who is the tiny lady name Dee or Vee always has a thing on her head always looks and sounds like she’s miserable but when the right person or maybe a familiar person comes in she’s friendly but otherwise not a welcoming personality at all. The other 2 ladies were very friendly from what I witnessed. Now of the 3 males, there is one much younger maybe high school aged male with brown hair and glasses who I didn’t see often but the times I did he was the only person in the store that ever asked if he could help me with anything, asked how my day was going, never left me or anyone while I was there waiting at the register and would say have a good night as I left. The other 2 males who seem to be there more frequently NEVER said a word, would avoid people at all cost, the other night the one just sat talking to some female customer that came in and took forever to come to the register and never apologized for the wait, the long haired one looks like he hates his job every day and does not make eye contact, and never says a word with eyes as red as fire looking like he was high out of his mind. I think the two nice ladies and the young man with glasses should be asked to teach the staff about customer service and proper store employee etiquette. Truly, this place needs some work. My 2 stars are for the 3 professionally behaved staff members.

In recent years this business has taken a dive. The general manager will cover up the theft of cashiers who will blatantly steal your money if you pay with cash. The store never operates properly, the staff is lazy and unclean, the building is also dirty, things are usually laying around in isles because inventory appears to not be put away half the time.
Circling back to the staff who not only is unclean and steals, they are rude and use drugs on site in the parking lot including the general manager who is known to smoke marijuana in the parking lot.
This is a nice tidy town however Dollar General is a nasty stain on the town. Sheffield would fair better shutting down Dollar General and Casey’s and getting a Kwik Star as long as they don’t hire anyone currently on staff at Dollar General.

The young ladies working there were so helpful and really friendly, store was clean and nothing blocking the isles which has been my experience in a couple of the other Dollar General stores in the area.

Typical Dollar General store, but the staff at this location make it stand out. I'd drive the extra couple miles for the customer service.How often does the checker in a store ask if you found everything alright, and then say let's go look together if you say no? Every checker, every time in this location.

It's starting to look a lot better than even a year ago! You can get through the aisles way more easily, it's more organized, and there is more than one worker to check you out now usually!
