Linda cares a lot for these animals. It takes a different kind of person with a lot of patience to do this kind of work.

I’ve volunteered here for about 6 months and can say that the staff care so much for each animal in the shelter. They really go above and beyond to care for the cats and dogs and want them each to find a loving home.

Yesterday I came across this pup in the middle of a very unpopulated area and way too close to the interstate. She was scared but otherwise fine. I had no idea if she was lost or abandoned, but she wasn’t where she needed to be. I made several calls to anyone I could think of or google to the area for help and all I got was directions to call other organizations or sorry we can’t help. I left one message at People for Paws and Linda called as soon as she had the opportunity. Linda was fantastic!! She was able to get the local Sheriff’s Office and the local vet involved when I couldn’t! The end result was a successful rescue and the pup was reunited with her owner who was completely unaware she had escaped while they were at work!! Linda was the ONLY person willing to go the extra mile, and absolutely took control of the situation, and this was almost 30 miles away from her. Linda, you are a credit to what you do and a HUGE friend to our beloved animal community!

If you would have asked me ten years ago I would have given them a one star review. I didn’t understand how this shelter worked.
Recently, Linda helped me save a young kitty who would have died without her. She was pregnant and her back legs were broken. Two little boys showed up at my door with the cat begging me to help her saying she had been laying in front of their house for two days not moving. She was crying and in pain but the sweetest most loving cat I have EVER met. She wanted to live. The fight had not left her. Cookie is what the boys called her. (I do believe they kept her name at pfp)
The local vet wouldnt help except to give me a number and I called that number fully expecting to be turned away. I bawled when she arranged to pick her up. I bawled when she called and told me cookie was going to be okay. I am thankful for people for paws and the way they were there for cookie.
Please don’t knock this organization until you understand why they turn you away. Have a real conversation with linda. It might change your mind. They don’t have much money, it’s all voluntary. And I know it’s hard for Linda to have to turn people away but she has to make the hard decisions.
I’m thankful cookie is alive and well and I’m thankful for the help people for paws gave her and me. I wouldn’t have been able to save this cat and I was really facing a hard choice. Thank you people for paws and I am sorry I ever doubted you.

I wouldn’t recommend adopting from this shelter because communication sucks I wasn’t told up front before signing adoption paperwork how everything works and never on time to meet about adoptions they tell u when to be there and never show up then after everything was going well wasn’t told when to bring Luna back from linda at people for paws then sends a nasty certified letter in the mail to me demanding Luna back ! I’d recommend auburn Nebraska shelter/or Maryville mo shelter they have the staff to help and are friendly! The volunteers at people for paws wasn’t the issue it was linda not being clear!im doing what was asked I’m taking her back after Luna has been in my home for at least 4 weeks!

I have to comment on my experience with the shelter. They are ADVOCATES for animals. Not people. There are animals at the shelter that will NEVER get adopted either because of health issues or behavioral ones. But they take care of them. Spend thousands on vet fees & medication. They are a VERY small shelter, which means that they have to turn away some. A lot actually. Sometimes people don’t understand certain decisions, they’re just mad & offended. But I can assure you, everything this shelter does, is FOR THE ANIMALS. so take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. Unfortunately, people who are happy with their experience seldom give reviews & the ones who didn’t have things go their way, try to seek revenge behind a keyboard. Animal rescue is hard, but this shelter deserves a reward.

I have put off this review for a couple of months in hopes that Linda Hoefing, the owner, would be a more decent person and make things right with my friend. She did not.
Beware of this woman, Linda Hoefing, the owner of People For Paws. She is very judgmental and hateful and will deny you and adoption for the most ridiculous reasons. Clearly she thinks she is better than everyone else. She gets your hopes up and then slams you.
Save yourself, the disappointment and heartbreak as there are many other places to adopt and rescue pets.
I highly recommend you do not use her and her establishment.

After two very pleasant, detailed visits regarding adoption of a dog at People for Paws, the owner, Linda Hoefing, turned a home visit into a nightmare. She demonstrated intolerance and discrimination and due to her personal bigotry took away a dog promised to me, lying, saying she was going to get him some food which she had earlier promised to bring with her. Moments later, she texted and said she was not bringing the dog back. I had spent days and money preparing for the dog I was promised. Instead, I got hurt and disappointment inflicted upon me from this hateful woman and the dog lost what would have been a perfect, loving home. I strongly urge people to avoid People for Paws. The kennels and yard were dirty, too; lots of dog feces.

i was out of town while my friend was watching my puppy. Linda (owner) had taken my puppy without notifying me. when i called she lied and said she had no idea what i was talking about. a month goes by of me calling her everyday still nothing. she had told someone that i knew that my puppy was with her groomer.so i called her again. she blocked my number and lies every time someone else calls. she steals animals and refuses to give them back to their owner. this place is terrible.

I called them up but got no answer. Left A voice mail that I had a cat on my back porch that was emaciated and matted, possibly had worms and could they possibly help. I have yet to hear back. Also sent a email. ?

We adopted our family dog from PFP 2 yrs ago. He’s one of the best dogs I could have ever asked for! Linda was AMAZING to work with, and it’s very apparent her passion for all of the animals there. Truly amazing place!
