I've had Linda M. do our taxes for more than a decade and she was always great and I never had any worries with her. She retired last year so I went to another person in the same office. She was also knowledgeable and I have no complaints about the return but the service after the initial appointment was horrible and exceptionally unprofessional. There was an issue with the state return that they said was software and I understand that. The agreement was she would figure it out in a day or 2 and let me know. I called back a week later when there was no response and I didn't get a response from that voicemail. I called 3 days after that and still no response. I sent an email the next day and it was never responded to. I left a message with another person in the office and still no response. I actually stopped in on a Saturday to talk directly to them and the 3rd person I had then communicated with assurred me I would hear from them on Monday. Wednesday of the next week there was no response so I made a complaint to H&R and got a case number. Their response was quick and profesional but I did not get a call from the actual preparer like they said I would. I did get an automatic email saying my state return had been accepted and that is the only reason I know anything was done. What they did was sent in a paper form which is actually the solution my wife came up with and they didn't bother to inform us in any way shape or form that they had actually followed through. The initial appointment was February 14 and as of today (4/24/2023) the "Iowa wheres my refund" still doesn't show anything because I don't have the dollar amount because they must have changed something and never provided me with updated information. I had to contact the state to verify they actually had it. I paid several hundred dollars (not a simple return) and today I received a 70 dollar "we're sorry for your troubles" refund which is a slap in the face as I have several hours of my own wrapped up in following up their failings. I would have been better off going to another company where they give you a deal for being a new customer. I probably would have been treated better and it would have been cheaper even with the so called refund. My experience is that I didn't encounter a reliable, dependable person in the Morningside Ave. office. A simple phone call and a little communication would have gone a long ways. I never needed more than a phone call with updates but was completely ignored. There was nothing more I could do - multiple voicemails, emails, and in person visits and not a response to a single one. Find another office or another company.

I don't think this tax business is the best. It was my first time trying to file online and I struggled so much. I had to go in and get help and my tax agent forgot to charge me there so I had to pay extra and take it off my return. I also called back asking if they could look up my return status because its been more than 3 months now and I was spoken to like I wasn't very educated. The woman I was speaking to hung up on me as well. Not sure if there was miscommunication but I didn't get the proper customer service I should have got. I called because I was confused and wanted answers.

My tax preparer Linda felt like she understood and genuinely wanted to help with my current tax issues. It may have taken a bit to get done even though she is swamped she still made time. It was worth the wait. I have peace of mind now thanks to her.
