Solon Recreation and Nature Area is a lovely city park located on the west side of Solon, Iowa. It offers a large parking area, including handicapped parking, and features sports fields, modern restrooms, and the Timber Dome Lodge available for rent. The park has a pleasant loop hiking trail and serves as the eastern end of a nearly 80-mile bicycle trail that passes through Ely, Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Center Point, and reaches Waterloo and Cedar Falls. Additionally, it is the southern trailhead for a trail along Lake McBride’s north shore, which leads to Lake McBride State Park beach. The trail is in great shape, with some sections leading to Ely (about 2 miles) and others crossing Lake McBride’s northern shore to campgrounds and beach. Parking is convenient, and the area is well-maintained.
