I love visiting museums and this one did not disappoint. Various exhibits. They had a toy exhibit from back in the day...before and during my childhood. Interviews of ppl from the various wars. It was great to hear about the Sullivan Brothers and how their lives impact families today. I plan to go back, definitely need more than one visit to take in everything.

We just finished day 1 of "Museum School." It was so well done and free for schools! There were hands on activities, an extremely impressive planetarium, and a lot of information. I found myself learning just as much, if not more than the kids. Huge thanks to our teachers, Benjamin, Hope, and Shanna!

Great interactive experience for kids and adults. We were amazed at how much Iowa veteran history is in this museum that is not taught in our schools. Black Americans are recognized and again there's a wealth of information on the black veterans in Iowa left untold in schools too. Very impressive and worth a visit to learn more about your Iowan history and how far reaching it has been in the past stretching into the future. Footnote park in the back of the museum!

Tried the door by the signs and it was locked. Walked around to the other side of the building to an entrance. No signage by the street that this was the parking lot and entrance! The Grout museum has nothing to do with " grout", but no explanation for the name.Otherwise it was an interesting museum.

This was a fun place to take the Grandchildren during Spring Break. There was a special admission discount price for the event. They enjoyed the visit, and I hope they learned a lot about our Veterans and our history. They were actively involved in the scavenger hunt game they had created to keep them interested. The Planetarium show seemed to be appreciated.

I attended a Black Hawk County Historical Society meeting. I believe I said that correctly, the Sullivan Brothers were the main topic with guest speaker Kelly Sullivan. It's an emotional story but an interesting story. The Grout Museum District is made up of four museums I'm sure I'll find more events that I would like to attend

Have been going here over 30 years. Always great exhibits with a focus on the Cedar Valley and Iowa. The newly renovated planetarium is worth the visit in itself. Great staff with lots of insight and are always friendly.

Staff was super friendly. Our boys (7 & 11) who both enjoy war history enjoyed the museum.

Good sized museum with plenty of information about local history and some science topics. One thing I really liked was all the different options for fun photo opportunities that are good for both children and adults. These are arranged on two separate floors that are fairly well spaced so that you have plenty of room to explore, even with other patrons inside the museum. The displays are done well, with plenty of artifacts shown in a realistic setting and well written explanations of what the visitor is looking at. Overall, a nice place to spend a few hours learning and exploring.

Such a wonderful surprise when we began our self guided tour. We learned so much about our military history that pertained to Waterloo and surrounding areas. The sections about Waterloo were very informative and answered alot of my questions about this area. Such a beautiful & rich history of many people of different countries coming together to form a community rich in friendships and valuable skills.

If you are interested in having an intimate exploration of American Military and War efforts this would be a good place to go. I was not. I was more interested in the prairie history and there wasn't a lot of that but what there was very well done. I especially enjoyed the personal stories that you can listen to. They did something imaginative I haven't seen before and that is they give you a dog tag when you enter and along the way you scan it and you listen to a personal story, but they make it sound like it's your own, very imaginative. Note: I found the museum difficult to find. I couldn't find a sign and kept going around the block because google told me it was there. I finally decided to ask someone, found parking and someone just happened to be leaving through a locked door. Apparently, I was in the right location but not at the entry door which I never did find. I walked around the museum and when it was time to leave, I could not find an elevator and had to climb the stairs. It seems there maybe a few kinks this museum needs to figure out. Also, there is one price, $12.00 without exception. I was told parking will be across a busy street and you would have to walk uphill.

We ended up not going in once we discovered our uncle's story wasn't being featured here at this time but the staff was so amazing helping us figure out how we could find his story on line. So many helpful and friendly staff members here! I'll return when I have more time and go through the entire museum.
