This was the rest room on main Street where they had decorations all over and a scavenger hunt that takes you to the art center. Not only decorative, but fun.

I loved the individual art works. The whole place promotes local initiative.

If you have any appreciation for the creative spirit and an open mind for the power of art I cannot recommend enough that you get off the damn interstate and take a short detour to Lucas and the Grassroots Art Center. I also recommend that you take the guided tour as the stories behind these creations are as fascinating and critical to the appreciation as the actual piece, be that 2 dimensional, 3 dimensional, or just out of this world dimensional.

Excellent! I went in without knowing what the tour could possibly include, and it was well worth it- I loved the stops along the walk to neighbor’s window art as well!

I loved the wide variety of unique and unusual art! The tour took us to a house that was floor to ceiling of one artist's work and it was amazing...I could have spent an hour just in that house. I could see how that part might not be to everyone's taste, but I was mesmerized! The rest of the center had so many different things there was something for everyone. It's amazing to see what people can do with all different types of mediums.

Bursting with vibrant and diverse outsider art! Be sure to check out “Old Man Winter” by Adolph Hannemann, and works by Inez Marshall, Ed Root, and many other artists. Plus, the gift shop is packed with original art and fun souvenirs. Enjoy!

This art was not to my taste at all. Check the pictures carefully to see if it's something you might enjoy. IMHO not worth the drive at all.

What better place than the middle of Kansas for a museum that honors outsider artists—those without training, who are just compelled to create art, often out of discarded tools or fabric or wire. The museum is well-organized and clearly displayed,, and the pieces are fabulous. Go.

I won't say "stop if you're in Lucas," because unless you make a point to go find this town of fewer than 400 people, you are almost certainly not going to be in Lucas! Lucas, KS is the sort of place you have to intend to go, and I strongly encourage you to do so! The Grassroots Art Center and the town of Lucas in general are so worth the little side trip off the interstate. Follow signs directing you to the Garden of Eden - the attraction that put the town on the art map over 100 years ago. If you're used to the big city, you kind of feel as if you're going out in the middle of nowhere on the 2 lane highway, and you kind of are, but it stays totally manageable, goes through some lovely places in the countryside, and it doesn't take long at all. Before you know it, you're in Lucas, and it's such a jewel. It's an outsider art town, but it's not an "artists' colony." It's simply a very small town that celebrates local self-taught artists and embraces its splendid uniqueness. It's not what you expect to find way out here, but then again, where else would it be, besides way out there? Things to see are Grassroots Art Center, the Garden of Eden/Miller Park, Florence Deeble's Rock Garden & Garden of Isis, and the Bowl Plaza - which is an art installation masquerading as a most splendid public toilet, or visa versa. Don't just drive through Lucas and glance; take the tours; you will learn things you did not know and see thing that thrill and inspire you. BTW, A question in the review questionnaire asked "Is this attraction exciting, unusual, or risky to visit?" That's not fair. It's definitely unusual, it's pretty exciting especially for artists, but risky? No - it's not risky.
