For several years I was a happy customer, but in the past year that has dramatically changed after ownership changed. Quick summary is they caused over $6,000 dollars of damage to my SUV and failed to fix it after multiple visits. For the full details of the story, continue. It all started when the fuel level stopped working. We had a trip planned and decided to get it fixed before we left. After spending roughly $1,500 on the repair, the first sign of the looming disaster showed up. Twenty minutes after picking it up, the fuel level stopped working again. I brought it back to the shop and a couple of hours later it was 'fixed.'It seemed to be working after that, so the next morning we hit the road with a full tank of gas. At roughly a quarter tank of gas, the car shut-off in the middle of nowhere. At least a 60 mile tow to the nearest repair location. 4 hours of waiting ensued for that tow. The shop said the tank had fuel, but for some reason the car couldn't use it. However they figured out that adding fuel would get it running.Over the next 1,000 miles we figured out that at roughly a quarter tank it would just die. Adding gas would get it going again for a little bit, but it was like they had disabled a quarter of the gas tank.I called Star Motors about it and they said they would make it right. I was unable to get it to a dealership while on the trip, but when I got back I brought it back to the shop again. This would be the third visit for what had been a fuel gauge issue, but with a car that used the full gas tank. Now I had a car that would shut off with roughly a quarter tank. After the third visit, they tried to charge me ANOTHER $1,600. I refused as they had said they would make it right. After much frustration and discussion, they didn't charge for the repair of the repair.Which was good because after the third trip to Star Motors the car now randomly shuts off somewhere between half a tank and an eighth of a tank. This has burned me at least one more time since. When I called and told them this, their actual response was, "I don't know what to say."Afterwards I took it to the dealer and they figured that the wiring harness had been shredded during the first repair when the gas tank had been removed. In addition the line between parts of the tank had been damaged. Having the dealer fix everything would be over $6,000.Not once after telling them about this have they responded or done anything. Not that I would let them work on my car again. It's been through enough. STAY AWAY from Star Motors. You'll thank me.

My car had a broken part that they couldn't get in for quite some time; nearly three months. In that time, they offered me a loaner car rather than me trying to get a rental, and Tessa kept me very, very well up to date on what was happening. Despite the length of time, I was very well taken care of, and would go back to Star Motors for anything wrong with my cars into the future.

I went to Star Motors twice within the space of a week for pre-purchase inspections of cars, and each time a mechanic performed a very detailed inspection. After the inspections, an employee went over the results with me, made recommendations and was happy to answer all of my questions. The work was fairly priced, and each time I left Star armed with information that gave me the confidence that I want when making a buying decision. (The first car turned out to have major mechanical issues, some of which made it dangerous, and the second one was in excellent mechanical condition.) Thanks!

I had my 2005 Volvo S60 serviced.I will say that customer service is very good and I would rate it 5 stars given the tools provided to the customer such as a website where one declines or approves technician findings/jobs.Speaking of findings, I have to say that I was surprised that the technician, during his test drive, failed to notice/bid for a new power steering pump (very noticeable). Which is ok. I did not bring in the car to have the latter serviced but, I was quoted on many things I did not ask for either. It just caught my attention. The prices and approach to how jobs are assessed is what keeps me from providing a 5-star rating.Again, the service is very good but, when I asked what their hourly rate was, I was told that they rate/bid jobs by the actual job rather than providing an hourly rate. Perhaps, some of you have dealt with it/seen it before but I never have. Even the Volvo dealership has hourly rates - albeit stratosphere high rates.I was provided an answer along the lines of, "an oil change will be different than replacing an engine." Agreed. But one does not have to walk away from an hourly rate to make such a differentiation - border line non-sequitur. If replacing an engine is assessed at 20 hours for instance, it would stand to reason that I would not charge the customer the same for an oil change. I can incrementally use labor rate to state something along the lines that an oil change would be charged at 0.2 hours of labor.I was told that they (as of the writing of this review) are 30% cheaper than the dealership. I think this may be, once again, per the job(s). One of the bids I received for a timing belt/water pump replacement was not 30% less but rather 13% less than the dealer. While I understand that reviews are very subjective and some may disagree with me, Star Motors is just far too expensive - my understanding is that they use OE parts as opposed to aftermarket - which is fine but, there again, far, far too expensive for me. To charge over $250 for an engine flush/oil change is very excessive. Over $400 to replace spark plugs - yikes! The silver lining is that if you want OE parts and want to save a bit rather than heading to the dealership then Star Motors is the place for you.Tessa was pleasant. Jack, the parts manager I believe, was very personable and extremely pleasant.

I went here two months ago referred by my warranty department for a transmission. They let my car a month. Ripped undercarriage off my car, went thru a half tank of gas and over 100 miles added to my car, which nothing was done just said had to test drive it!!! 100 miles and half tank of gas? No!! Here two months later back in same problems! Was told a pre auth charge for 250 but wouldn’t charge it and it did. Was told by manager it would be taken care off today called told nothing they could do! Mind you waited three weeks of being told a loaner was coming and had to keep calling! This place is shady and at this point don’t even want them working on my car think it’s best to get attorney!!
