This is a Bortle 3 spot and going to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is a Bortle 2 area but either is great and you'll get some great photos and have a great experience reading about the history.

Really neat building. You can actually drive your car here, you necessarily don't have to hike from the Visitor Center.

Went last summer for a Milky Way shoot but clouds came in late and didn’t get to stay as long as we liked. Heading out now w hopes to get shots of Aurora Borealis!
