In early August of this year (225), I was one of the rare patients to have bilateral total knee replacement at Ephraim McDowell. With so many low ratings and negative reviews, I was concerned about having it there. However, it is where the surgeon works and it is close to home.
The bottom line is that this was by far the most outstanding hospital experience I have ever had for myself or by others such as family and friends that I have seen! They were great in every way:
- Communication: a couple weeks prior to the procedure, they had me and my wife attend a class where they reviewed every aspect of what to expect before, during and after surgery. They provided a binder with all of that and more. At the hospital, they continually kept me and my family informed of throughout the experience.
- Professionalism: I was brought back as scheduled, delt with respectfully and politely yet with the personalness I have come to expect and enjoy in Danville.
- Responsiveness: After I was admitted following surgery, any and every time I pressed the call button, a nurse or tech would either immediately respond over the intercom and/or come into the room within literally a few minutes. They took care of my needs with kindness and compassion. They were truly a pleasure to deal with!
- Cleanliness/hygiene: This is my area of expertise. I am recently retired, but my profession included assessing hospitals for regulatory compliance as well as performing to industry standards as it relates to cleaning and hand hygiene for infection prevention. Ephraim McDowell would have certainly received my highest score! It is as clean as any hospital I have ever seen, including restrooms, non-public areas, the operating suites and patient rooms. I watched a few of the Environmental Services techs as they cleaned. The products and procedures they used were excellent!
- Results: The surgery was a total success and now that a few months have passed, I am mostly recovered and enjoying the benefits of my new knees! The surgeon, Dr. Jeremy Tarter, was awesome, couldn't have been better! The PT I received from Ephraim McDowell Home Health and at the McDowell Center was excellent and effective.
I know my experience was better than so many others that left negative reviews, so they must have improved since those were posted. I am totally grateful for how outstanding everyone at Ephraim McDowell was in making sure my surgery went well and my experience was positive!

Disappointed in the questions that are completely irrelevant to a toddler visit, not so friendly.

I’d give it 0 if I could. Came in to set up back injections, scheduled it, was given a time to be there and everything, the day I showed up for my injections they claim I’m not on schedule. I went from hospital to surgical center, back to hospital, and back again to surgical center trying to figure out what to do. The lady behind the desk at Dr.Bux office was incredibly unhelpful and made 0 attempt to assist me in figuring out what to do. Unbelievable the attitude that she gave me, and only advise from her was “ do you want your next appointment card” do not waste your time going to this place.

I don't know what your position at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical center but I certainly hope it isn't caring for sick patients who's appearances change due to underlying diseases. I seriously hope this hospital wouldn't condone you making fun of sick people the way you did this poor woman on Facebook for the whole world to see. If you are a nurse do better. It's sad for me to think someone like you would be the person to care for sick people if you're going to make fun of their appearances that they obviously cannot help. And if you aren't working in the medical field directly with people please still do better as a person in general. You should be embarrassed and ashamed.

I'm a retired medical professional and can honestly say that if I need care in the future, I will travel for it. EMH and Haggin Hospital are by far the worst I've encountered. Unprofessional staff (nurse and doctors especially), unorganized and unknowledgeable. A circus without the benefit of entertainment.

Did not have a good experience with the ER there I am in a wheelchair so they had to transfer me from my chair to the bed one of the nurses there said Have ever heard of an ambulance? I said what doI need an ambulance for she said because it would have made a lot easier on her and the rest of the staff to not have to do that. She should be thankful she has a job. And if she doesn't like what she is doing then she needs to get another job. An ambulance is expensive than the transit bus. I'm not made of money. She was rude but God knows her heart. The hospital doesn't get good reviews anyway. She didn't help.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. My elderly father had to be admitted to the ER following an EKG. I have been in many emergency rooms, either for myself, family members, or someone else and have never seen anything so dirty and disgusting. The walls were completely dirty. Things were taped to the wall. The floor had not even been swept or mopped. There was dust and dirt under the bed on the back shelf. The chair was dirty and ripped. I did not even sit down the entire time that he was in there. This really should be a health department issue. The first shift of nurses were rude and unattentive. Not to mention they sent him home without even seeing or talking to a specialist. I will say the two guys that came in at 7 PM or very nice. I would avoid the Danville ER at all cost. Fort Logan in Stanford is an entirely different experience. Their emergency room is clean, well organized, and the staff is very courteous. I will never go to Danville again if I can help it at all. Hoping this reaches someone at the hospital or health department who actually cares.

While my mom was in the ICU, she started grabbing her chest and mouthing that she was having trouble breathing, went to go tell a nurse and was told to go back to the room before I could even say anything, the day before a respiratory therapist named pauletta started talking crap about my mom, saying she couldn't possibly be in any pain and that she just wanted more drugs, another nurse named kayla kept getting an attitude, saying the same thing as the respiratory therapist, if I could get her transferred to a different hospital, I would. I will be contacting the patient liaison, the supervisor, and probably an attorney. This is unacceptable!!

I was taken here when I had my heart attack the ER was packed. The Doctors and Nurses in the ER did a great job. The team that put my stents together in made me feel like I was going to be ok and opened back up my 100% blocked artery. I had to stay 2 days in ICU the nurses were so nice and supportive really made me feel safe. Now the reason I didn’t give 5 stars the food was awful everything was cold that was supposed to be hot was was ment to be cold was Luke warm

I give one star valuing my own life and yes, while EM saved my life once, they allowed my Mother to lay in the ER for 2 hours not knowing what was wrong, did nothing to help her & said she was having a bad reaction to some street drugs. Finally, they took her for a CT scan ONLY to find out that she had had a hemorrhage, and blood had been pooling against her brain for 2 hours while they let her lay. They quickly rushed her to Lexington knowing she was dying (she almost died in the helicopter on the way to UK several times!) but obviously, at that point she couldn’t die on their watch. They dismissed ANY questions I had & allowed her to lay. We laid her to rest a few days later. I don’t have my Mother today - because the time they allowed her to lay there could have saved her life. I wish I had sued unfortunately this was in May 2022 & I believe it’s been too long! Disgraceful! Shame on them & may God look over anyone who seeks care here!
