I used to come into this store a few times per week for wine and also to shop for special bottles for my clients. They always had a pretty good wine selection and very interesting bourbons. Sam and Bruce - the old owners - were always able to help me find something special. They also had an employee, Becca, who was very good with bourbon and wine and I believe was a bourbon instructor as well. Everything changed when they sold their store in April. The new owners did keep Becca on as the buyer for a while, so I was still able to get good suggestions for a couple of months. But now that they let her go for unknown reasons absolutely nobody who works in that store knows anything about the products they sell. That was a huge mistake to let go of their final asset left at that store. The new owners know literally nothing about wine. Nothing. They are also pushy about selling cigars and overpriced Buffalo Trace products. One of the new owners even told me he doesn't drink bourbon unless it is Pappy Van Winkle. Talk about out of touch! It is clear he is only drinking it for the name and prestige and doesn't actually know what makes good bourbon...This is all very concerning. The store has been around for nearly 100 years and has been a neighborhood staple. It is safe to say the new owners know nothing about the rich history of the store. They are turning it into a convenience store with alcohol. If you want to interact with anyone half way knowledgeable about alcohol? Pass on this store. If you want to patronize a local business where your money goes back into the community and the owners treat their staff with the respect they deserve? Also pass.Again, what a shame!

I have been coming here for 12 years. This store was my go to for responsible, helpful staff. The old owners were amazing and knowledgeable, but unfortunately the store has been sold and the store has gone to hades straight down the river. It's awful and they have fired their most knowledgeable staff member for from what I can tell basically wanting to maintain the prior integrity of the store. They had people living in the upstairs attic. They close when they say they are open, they are not personable or helpful and stiff their employees and distributors. You lost a valuable and long time customer, sad to say. Miss you Sam and Bruce.

Store used to be great now with new ownership it’s trash. They price gouge every product even if it isn’t allocated, their knowledge on their selection is terrible, and barely understand English. Won’t be back. Most regulars have left and went to other stores.

State used to be my go to liquor store in the neighborhood but with the new ownership it is terrible. Every product is more expensive then the store 100ft away, their knowledge is heavily lacking, and barely speak English.

Don't go here. They are scamming customer through online ordering. Apparently there are new owners and they don't care. I spent $200 online for pick up and they they claim not to have online ordering. Wouldn't refundy money .

A decent selection of wines. They are open a little later than the others near us so it is convenient if it's past 10pm

Poor wine selection and lots of trash on the floor. Whiskey and bourbon allocated items are always hidden and well above secondary. Owners are hit and miss mood wise. Competitors such as Cox's a few blocks away do liquor right. Always friendly, good selection of wine, and they have a well stocked tasting area.

Best Liquor Store and Service!!! The team at State were absolutely amazing! We are visiting Louisville on a family trip and they went above and beyond to ensure we found local small batch bourbon to match our preferences. Additionally, we were sharing our disappointment about not being able to locate an open distillery tour during our stay. Rebecca reached out to her contacts and took down our contact info and after less than an hour found one vacancy for our party of 6 on the prohibition tour. They take time to get to know customers and have amazing customer service. I will certainly be back to visit again on our next trip down. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Nice place but one youngish white guy was kinda strange and made me uncomfortable with his comment. I wasn't sure if he was trying to be nice or make me feel bad. But that's one out of the many employees I've interacted with and all the rest had been great. I will say, I drive to Cox, kroger and Walgreens instead of there now. Avoiding that guy at all cost.
