We’ve shopped at this store many times purely because it’s close by, but after today I won’t be returning.
I was prepared to spend over $600 on paint. I had the exact paint names written down, but the young man at the paint counter insisted I go pull the color chips from the wall because “having the code would be easier for him.” I explained that the woman who helped me last week was able to look up the codes in the computer within seconds using just the paint names, and I asked if he could do the same. In response, he rolled his eyes and sighed. He then agreed to look up the codes.
After struggling to mix just one gallon (he had to call someone over because he didn’t know how to use the machine), he then told me they were out of the paint base we wanted to use for the rest, but that I could “just use” the more expensive base in the same finish and it would be fine. I asked him to double-check, because I honestly didn’t feel confident he knew what he was talking about. He walked off to check—only to come back and admit that no, we shouldn’t mix them because the finishes could be different.
So not only was his attitude rude and dismissive, but if I hadn’t pushed him to verify his advice, I would have walked out with the wrong (very expensive) paint. At that point, I decided to buy only the one gallon they had already mixed. I couldn’t in good conscience hand over more than $600 to a store that treats customers like an inconvenience.
Later at lunch, I mentioned the experience to a friend who lives in the area. She said she never shops at this Ace because they’re known for being unhelpful, overpriced, and rude. That perfectly sums up my experience as well.
I ended up going to another hardware store that same day, bought all the paint I needed, and was treated with respect and appreciation—something I did not receive here.

I don't like this store. Prices are high and staff is clueless. I tried to purchase a Ford fitting which is a compression fitting for water lines and the young man attempting to assist me didn't know if they carried them, I had him radio the main guy and he replied over the radio, this isn't a parts store. Every time I go in, I always regret the decision. Q

High prices and unfriendly staff. I basically try to avoid this store at all cost. Even with it being 2 miles away from my house.

Love the small business hardware store vibe. People on the floor are very friendly and helpful. My problem is, the cashiers are about the most unfriendly people I’ve ever met at a retail store. This alone makes me want to take my business elsewhere. It’s a shame that the experience is ruined on the way out the door, otherwise I’d give them five stars and shop here first.

Nice and close. Pricing seems right. Good people working for a living. I'll shop here more.

I went to get a new sparkplug and air filter for my push mower, but the man who runs that particular department wasn't there. Another employee filled in for him and was extremely helpful, even with little knowledge of that particular area. He apologized, but I saw no need for him to do so. I got what I needed and will definitely be back.

GOLD STAR SERVICE!!!!! Bought my Stihl zero turn mower here and I have found my go to hardware store for life! Staff went above and beyond to get us what we needed when we needed it, after another store had completely messed with us sending us a damaged, non running, filthy, empty gas tank, dead battery mower. Was treated very poorly and refused delivery and cancelled order. Called Stouts and they took great care of me! They not only care about their customers, they care about the quality of the products they sell to them as well. They don't charge you ridiculous document fees and delivery fees. Nor do they upcharge accessories for your purchase. Helpful, caring, and honest!!!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about how they do business!!! We will be customers for life! Thank you all so much for making what seemed to be an awful buying experience into a wonderful and happy one!!

I’ve shopped here for close to seven years and usually have good experiences up until I needed to exchange a pre-color tone stain. I Simply wanted to get another color of the same brand and the same cost and the ladies at the front said they could not exchange it. I will find another hardware store for all my purchases in the future, including chainsaws, deer corn, and yearly lawn items. Silly to lose a customer over a terrible Unposted policy.

Ladies up front make it feel like we should be indebted they are open and they are serving us….should it not be the other way around- thank you for shopping with us?? I didn’t buy stuff at another larger box retailers to keep money local. But between the stories of healthcare, pneumonia, and the minute clinic we were able to secure our purchase. Oh and adding the frequent shopper for points and using a ACE coupon- It felt like we were taking money from her personally. Just saying act happy someone is coming in to spend money or go home or work via the phone. (Not the first time)
