December 2024 by Melissa DeHart
I was a volunteer here and treated poorly by a couple of managers. I'm not going to write a lot by telling everything that happened. But one thing is I got in trouble for having a phone on me to respond to emergency calls about my 15 month old son. Manager told me to tell my son's daycare to call the Goodwill office instead of my cellphone. My son was crying nonstop and inconsolable, refusing to sleep at naptime, and acting like his legs hurt. So they called the Goodwill office to tell me to come pick him up. The manager, Emily lied and told his daycare that I was not there. I did not find out until at least 2 hours later when I went on break and looked at my phone. Emily responded by saying she didn't see me come in that morning and didn't know I was there. She SAW me come in and SPOKE to me that morning while I was signing in. There is a sign-in sheet for volunteers. I sign in... record time I get there and time I leave. She didn't look at the sign-in sheet to see if I was there? She wanted me to keep working. On my way to pick up my son, he had a face injury that had not occurred until I was in my car on the way to his daycare. His eye was swollen. He fell on his face because he wasn't feeling well. I learned of the injury when I arrived to his daycare and they had me sign an incident report. His face forehead was red with a little cut and eye swollen. I asked when it occurred, and it had happened after I left Goodwill. I was fuming and shaking because if Emily had told me about Goodwill calling, I would have picked my baby up from the daycare a couple of hours earlier and the injury would have been avoided. Goodwill is responsible for his injury. Later, I brought my son with me to give Goodwill my transportation form (paid transportation for volunteering). Both managers, Emily and Jocelyn were rude to me in front of my son. I was still fuming over his injury, but I chose to say NOTHING and just be polite. My son was with me. I had a question about turning in the correct form. This is what caused them to be rude to me, acting like I don't listen. I told Jocelyn that it didn't make sense for the wrong month to be on the transportation form, so I didn't think it was the correct form. She told me it was correct and that it just looks confusing and got frustrated for me asking. She said, now Melissa, i told you to put it in the folder. Emily chimed in and said, yeah I also think I believe I also told you yesterday to put it in the folder (not true). We never talked about the transportation form the day before. So I did as they told me. Well, I found out later that the transportation form was indeed the wrong one. I received a call from my worker stating the form had the wrong month on it and I needed to redo it. I had to make a special trip down to Goodwill to fix it. And Emily and Jocelyn both insisted on it being the correct one. And were rude to me in front of my son when I didn't think it was the correct one when in fact it WAS the wrong one! Acting like I was being annoying for not accepting it. Prior to all this mess, Emily talked down to me a couple times for things that another volunteer or coworker did. She got me confused with someone else. The assistant manager told me to ignore Emily because she was just confused. But she also never went to Emily to tell her I was not the one who was responsible for the things I got chewed out over. They need to get their crap together. I was a very hard worker and got reprimanded a couple times over something someone else did. I chose to volunteer at Sparky instead, and the people there are absolutely wonderful. I won't buy anything or donate anything to Goodwill again. I donate to the church.

This use to be a great Goodwill. I wish I could say that it still was, but that is not the case. The prices here are ridiculous. First of all, they get the donations for free, because that is what donations are for, and they turn around and put prices on items for way too much.Goodwill was intended to be a place for people who have a lower income, to be able to afford to shop for things they cannot afford to buy new in a store. The prices at this goodwill are getting higher and higher. On top of it all, they don’t always have the “color of the week”. Even if they did, the prices would still be too high.I won’t even donate to this goodwill anymore because of this.

OUTRAGEOUSLY OVERPRICED! I literally just saw a fake tree for $50 in clothing. It is over price even if it has a tag on it saying that it cost less originally. It is laughable. I will be adding pictures when I go back. A broken doll bed that is 19.88 at Walmart was being sold for $25 so people just really watch what you’re buying. I know it’s trendy to be thrifty but don’t let places like this will take it vantage of you.

Goodwill has become outrageously overpriced. I was going to buy canning jars, 9 of them that were on the shelf. They had them marked $1.79 each, which adds up to $17.11. I can buy a whole dozen of them BRAND NEW at Walmart or Tractor Supply right down the street for $9.99. I brought this to their attention, even having screenshots of the new ones at Walmart and they refused to mark them down one penny! And then they ask you to donate $.82 to them when you check out?!?! Wow. How arrogant and greedy! This is but one of many overpriced items. Goodwill needs to remember that they didn't buy this stuff new, someone else did and DONATED IT TO THEM, traditionally to sell to the poor and needy at DISCOUNTED priced. Hence the name GOOD WILL. I won't be back and I'll make sure none of my friends or family are either.

I felt that the Kidron Valley Goodwill store was one of the best places to work at because the staff members taught me some valuable life skills. Even with the mental limitations in my life, I felt that the staff were kind and generous to take me under their wings both times that I was rehired to work here...I will forever miss my second home and my second family at the Kidron Valley Goodwill Store!! They taught me more about life than all I could have asked for!!! Thank you and God bless you all!!! ????????
