Traveling on I-75S after Labor Day. Engine light and temperature gauge warning come on after 20 minutes of driving. Fortunately, just before exit ramp. Pulled off and bought some coolant at gas station. Open hood and see fluid sprayed all over and now smoking. Found Hall and Sons about 1/4 mile away. They assessed issue quickly and fit me in for repair. Problem was on intake manifold and they came up with a creative fix that got us on our way in just over an hour, with no further issues on our 500 mile trek. Great, honest service and super-helpful, friendly and experienced mechanics. If ever in need near Richmond, KY, Hall and Sons is the choice.

It's honestly with a heavy heart that I write this review. When I moved to Richmond 12 years ago, I selected Hall and Son's because they had wonderful reviews, and they were on a list from a show called Car Talk who is notorious for picking great mechanics. For a while, when Hall and Son's was on Main Street, I couldn't ever find fault with them. They were honest, detailed, and clear about parts, labor, taxes, etc. They did fantastic work that did not have any fault. The last 5 years, though, I can't say the same. There has been so much human error which does deserve some grace. However, over time, they have gotten less forthcoming, less kind, and less willing to work with their clients. I have recommended so many people to them, and that comes back on me with complaints when Hall and Son's does bad work. Some instances include: putting too short bolts on a tire, not reconnecting hoses when they replaced a starter, and using bad parts (that they later admitted were subpar) on a brake caliper repair that had to go back to them less than 6 months later. All of these repairs were incredibly overpriced, but we all thought we had good, complete work done. Most recently, I brought my car in for misfires, and they determined it was a cracked intake manifold. They were pretty aggressive with me when I questioned the pricing and after I explained that research shows an intake repair is at max $1100 (not $1500) they replied "the internet is breaking us." They did eventually bring the price down, and I was thrilled they found a way to work with me. However, when I picked up my car, they were incredibly awkward nearing on hostile. I paid and left quickly due to the discomfort when I typically try to converse with them and maintain a friendly rapport. I was on my way home, heard a clunk, and when I arrived home, I found my step rail completely unsecured. There's no reason that should have happened when they weren't putting my car on a lift for an intake manifold or oil change. If they stepped on it too hard and it broke, they should have said something. So I really only have the available conclusion that they broke my step rail on purpose, or at the very least, hid it from me on purpose. It's also not for nothing, that my car still kicks when shifting (at least it's not misfiring I guess) just a day after I picked it up from them which indicates they either didn't do a complete diagnostic of my car, or they just didn't do the right job. I will be taking it to another mechanic to check their work and repair my damaged step rail. I cannot recommend Hall and Son's anymore in good faith which really sucks because it is hard to find honest mechanics who do transparent, thorough work which they used to be when they were on Main St.Services: General repairs & maintenance

Amazing service and wonderful people to work with. I had both solenoids and camshaft sensors replaced, and it is running great, they made the 14hr journey back to Minneapolis possible. They saved the holiday for me, and accommodated the service to be completed when I was passing back through. I would highly recommend using their services.

Had my car for weeks. It was in the same spot outside that it was left. The engine compartment hadn’t been opened. They told me the car had been checked and they found worn cams. Without removing valve covers there is no way of knowing that. The car had 2 flat tires from rim leaks that normally takes about a month to go flat. They charged me $119.00 for their work they said, (Surprised it wasn’t more. That was for diagnostic check I assume. I know the hood hadn’t been raised because of old cobwebs on valve covers. If they didn’t want to work on it they could have said so up front. Don’t keep it for a.month promising no problem to fix and then tell me it needed a new engine and charging for work they never done.

Spent over 1k on my vehicle to pick it up and it still have the same problem as when I dropped it off, called them and told them and they said that’s what they had fixed so it couldn’t be the issue (even though that’s what the engine light was reading). So now paying to have my truck fixed AGAIN for the SAME ISSUE at a different place.Services: General repairs & maintenance

My car was giving me trouble, I was afraid to drive it to work. Called Hall & Son's, they told me to bring it on down and by 12noon it was fixed and ready to go! Great customer service and a reasonable price! I didn't feel like they overcharged me or took advantage of my situation. I will definitely call them next time I have car trouble.

Had taken my 2011 mazda 3 to them in 2020 June to fix the upper control arm. Here I am in 2021 after 1 year and a half sitting at the Mazda dealership telling me whoever did this job should probably quit and close their shop because they did a really terrible job with it. Some of the bolts missing. Some were put wrong. How can you mess up putting a bolt wrong? You don’t even need to be a mechanic to properly put a bolt. The dealership lifted the car and showed me how poorly the job was done. I had paid $700 trusting them to work professionally but I regret going to them. Please avoid this shop at any cost and save yourself from spending $ at a business so unreliable and unprofessional.Service: Steering/Suspension
