You can't beat the deli meals for lunches. It is home cooking at its finest. The line wraps around the store on Sunday afternoon for the fried chicken.

As a grocery, it's distinctly mediocre. It feels like a time machine to the 1970's or 1980's, with a limited selection. It's a small-town IGA, it's not going to be anything like a large supermarket in a city. However, I went there for the deli lunch, as it has a reputation of being one of the better places to eat in town. It was perfectly adequate, the food was okay but not exceptional. The service was decent, it was a little inconvenient that they didn't have the ability to take debit cards though, and seating was fairly limited.

LOVE IGA's plate lunches! You get two sides and an entree for a great price! The twice baked potatoes are the best! Friendly staff and great customer service, would recommend for anyone visiting town

The deli has the best lunch in town. Good home cooking and generous portions. Only bad thing is trying to go back to work after such a filling meal :-)

The TL;DR is: don't be intimidated because everyone seems to know one another. Everything is pretty straight forward and, awkward parking lot aside, no one I came across was unkind / unhelpful despite me being obviously not a local. Was in Springfield recently for several days in a row needing to feed myself with limited time...which isn't necessarily easy without relying on a small number of fast food places given how rural the area is. While the IGA may be dated and have limited grocery options, this unassuming small town grocery has a pretty impressive prepared food counter offering home-style, Southern cooking, lunch line-style. On my two visits there were three 'meats' to choose from and four or five hot sides. Choices were Southern standards like fried fish (looked like catfish, maybe?), fried pork loin, fried chicken, and beef. Sides available were similar fare: green beans, mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon, mac and cheese, and something that could have been fried okra (or maybe hushpuppies, but that would be a little odd for the area). Vegetarians, let alone vegans are probably SOL here, be warned and my apologies, as even the vegetable sides I saw had bacon or other animal protein/fat. And there is pork in near everything. Don't get me wrong, the place is definitely rough around the edges - there are no organic baby vegan unicorn floss on offer here - but for what it is attempting to be (again, a very rural, low price lunch counter), it's pretty darn good. Prices for the portions received were impressive: is it the very best I've ever eaten, anywhere at any price? No. But for $4.99, I had enough for a tasty lunch and dinner! Anywhere else, what they are serving would be three to four times the price. Adjacent restaurants are serving food half as good at twice the price. Anyways - if you're from here, you've eaten here regularly. If you're not from here, don't be intimidated. Go into the store and walk to the right, past the checkout. Look for a big sign near the ceiling that says "Prepared Food", walk up to the counter and order. There wasn't a menu board that I saw and dishes weren't labeled, but staff was friendly about saying what things were. Your order is immediately clam-shelled, with the price written on the outside, you continue around the corner to pay the cashier. There is a cooler with bottled drinks near the cashier, but it wasn't stocked with many options on my visits. Plastic ware, napkins, salt, pepper, and a few other seasonings are available to grab and go. There is a small amount of seating inside and the joint is hoppin' with laborers and retirees alike while they're serving. There's also a park down the street that has benches if you prefer to eat outdoors. Do take care in the parking lot. Between the parking / drive thru for Wendy's and access to adjacent properties, the layout is unexpected. Since it's often full of larger vehicles there can be limited visibility, especially if anyone is driving too fast, and there are steep drop-offs where the pavement ends or has subsided which can end badly for all concerned. That aside, it's a quick and easy in and out to get some pretty tasty almost-home cooking!

Deli lunch is awesome! Also, I come from a small town. I meet Greg threw my work I came to town for. I saw him grilling outside the store fig was for deli. However it was for the football team this is very admirable. I coming from a small town very supportive about local sports was very impressed by this. This does not happen everywhere. Support this store, they support back.

AMAZING food for an amazing price...love this place. All the great flavor and choices of home cooked food without doing the prep and clean up myself. The pork tenderloin, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and mac n cheese are my favorites.
