“This was my beautiful boy NewGuy. He was my best friend. When I brought him into see Dr. Helmer because he just wasn’t acting like himself she was so kind and loving with him. After explaining my concerns and his recent changes in behavior she had a pretty good idea of what was going on. She done bloodwork and an X-Ray to confirm her suspicions. When everything came back she sat in the floor with me while I loved on my boy and explained that he had a very large tumor on his spleen that needed to be removed ASAP. She covered all the risks and possibility’s with me as well. Her love of animals really showed through that day. She was able to get him booked into surgery the next morning with DR. Simpson.
Dr. Simpson and his vet techs done an excellent job with my boy. They were able to remove the tumor without incident. His incision healed quickly and beautifully.
Unfortunately, a few days later when the pathology came back Dr. Simpson called to let me know that my boy did indeed have Hemangiosarcoma. This is never an easy thing to hear and I imagine that it’s not an easy thing to have to tell someone that their pet has a terminal disease and there’s no treatment for it. Dr. Simpson was so unbelievably kind and compassionate.
Over the next few weeks whenever I would call with questions or concerns the staff greeted me with kindness and done their utmost to make sure that they were able to give me the guidance that I needed.
I said goodbye to my precious boy this past week. I know without a doubt that he was granted these extra weeks with me because of the quick thinking, experience and knowledge of Dr. Helmer. In my journey of learning more about Hemangiosarcoma I’ve read so many stories about people who had multiple trips to different vets even specialist before they were able to get a diagnosis. I’m so thankful that Dr. Helmer was able to give us answers that same day.”
