September 2023 by DoIReallyWant ToDoThisAgain
My first visit and I was not really impressed. It was on my route to another destination so I decided to check them out and get what I needed instead of going out of my way.One item on the list was brown sugar. There was none. A good size section of that shelf was completely empty. No white sugar either. I went to the front and asked if they were out of brown sugar. The cashier and a young man told me that the sugar is with the baking goods. I told him that I looked there but the shelves were empty. He went down the aisle and looked for himself. He told me he was going to check to see if they had any and walked off. I continue shopping in the meantime and went to the next aisle. That same young man was on that aisle and was looking at something (not sugar) on a shelf and then danced off to the front near the checkout. He came back a few minutes later and said they were out of brown sugar. I thought to myself, you didn’t even look! I told him thank you and finished getting what I could get at this store. I went to a dollar store down the road for the brown sugar. The store did appear to be clean and well organized; however, It does not appear to be well stocked.

July 2023 by Columbo's Candela
I have loved this store for many years, so this review is hard for me to make. Something has changed, specifically in the deli/cold food prep section of the store.I purchased a container of chicken salad and a container of southwest dip (almost $30 combined). Both were inedible. The southwest dip was 100% spoiled/soured. Legitimately one of the foulest things I've ever eaten. Best by date is June 30 on the container, which means it was in this condition when it was packaged (in house by Calandro's employees). The chicken salad was not spoiled but was difficult to eat due to the cartilage of the chicken. I'm not nearly as angry about this as the southwest dip, which defies ALL food safety protocols.Like I said, I love this store and I love supporting if but the employees that prepare these items need to do better. It's inexcusable and can make someone sick.

Add this store's sandwich offerings to the list of baton rouge bad muffalettas. Soggy, overpriced and bland. One thing I'll give 'em, it wasn' toasted, pressed or hot. Nothing ruins a muffaletta like cookig it. They're called cold cuts for a reason!

Terrible customer service. Just plain rude in the deli and the checkout line over and over again. I've tried to reach out in a friendly manner to the managers via email to share my experiences. Never got a word of response. I like to support small/local/independent businesses generally, but forget it. Don't bother shopping here. There's a Winn Dixie right up the street and they're awesome. Never making the mistake of shopping with these folks ever again. Good riddance.

Calandros carries one of the most flavorful king cakes in the city! They also carry items I can't find elsewhere. Close, convenient, good, fresh meat, fresh and unblemished produce are always available. They also have a great cheese selection and plenty of ready to go foods in the deli. The cashiers are absolutely friendly and helpful. Definitely a great place to shop!

I love Calandros. High quality grocery ingredients while also having the basics. But great bakery, beer and wine selections!

Their king cakes are not good. Not sure about other food but the king cakes definitely leave a lot to be desired. I won’t be purchasing anymore from here.

Won't buy anymore King cakes here. Paid $20 for basically wheat bread with sprinkles. A small piece of the cake had filling.

Made a big pantry-stocking run and the fixings for Christmas dinner. Colandro's didn't disappoint. There was nothing I couldn't find, plus I got to support a small business with a large purchase for the holidays. Big fan of the local supermarkets. The meat selections were very nice quality. I shopped local in MD as much as I could before transplanting here too.

Great locally owned grocery with a fantastic selection of wine, liquor, and local products. Fantastic meat department and fresh prepared foods available as well. Friendly staff and helpful people throughout the store.

It makes me sad that it is so expensive to shop here, but at the same time, I believe it's still family owned, and the employees have been there for a long time. The bakery and the women and men who work there absolutely know what they're doing. The freezer is stocked with local Louisiana frozen fare so you can have any of the local Cajun dishes, Drop them in the pot until your mother-in-law you made it from scratch. I, personally, intend to take it to my next family reunion in Alabama. No one will ever know. The produce section it's proportionate to what you would expect for a store of the size but they have the basics and a few exotics. There's seafood and meat selections is good. They have all the best local jellies and jams. The wine selection is intense and if you need a decent king cake during the season they come in reasonable sizes.I typically shop there when I'm in the area, or if I'm looking for something I can't find anywhere else, or I'm looking to fake cook some thing because truly who has the time these days? Definitely check it out! I'd love to try them out for Thanksgiving. Note to self!
