Excellent example of the early 20th century hardware store. Nearly two hours looking around! Surprisingly, educational.

This is not an ordinary store. You step back in time the minute you walk in. All sorts of hardware and unusual things you won't find elsewhere. You'll want to explore down every aisle and check out the museum part of the store.

There’s nothing you can’t find here. Industrial rope, crocodile heads, army surplus, knick-knacks, and one sweet weapons rack. There’s also a little Covington museum attached which is worth checking out.

This place is a definite store to visit. Awesome history to see and the prices are very reasonable.

Its a step back in time going through the door. Really great museum with lots of interesting artifacts of covington from early 1900's. Ohh, and they still sell hardware items too. Must see if you're in downtown covington with some time to spare.

Been buying there all my life. They specialise in old hardware and tools. So if you need a hook to hang your hat or a how for your garden they have it. While your at it, check out the Army surplus or the museum with old artefacts.

This General store has plenty of small decorative iron items, crawfish cooking tools, cast iron fire ovens, chains, yard decorations, bar signs, fly swatters, iron numbers for residents, ropes, tons of hardware for clamps and rings and much more. It's home to a small free museum in the back of the store that not many people know about. It's a rare entity and worth the visit to check out the museum or buy decor for your yard or needed last minute items for camping like lanterns, boiling pads and things you forget you need for anything out doors including canoes. ?⭐️?

I LOVE this store. The minute I walked in I felt like home. My father was born in 1930 and the majority of the items in the store were from World War II and after. I politely asked to the restroom and the gentleman showed me the way. The bathroom was clean! Upon exiting the bathroom the gentleman asked me where I was from and if I seen the museum next door. I hadn't so, I decided to have a look! I was immediately taken back to my childhood! So much if what was on display was part of my life. The owner said there are 3 siblings who run the store snd 10 grandkids who are in line. He was incredible we shared stories of our pasts! I told him my first bicycle had cement tires! Seriously! I also told him my daddy was old school. He stood for the flag, prayed over his meals, taught me to live off the land, and taught me never to take anyone's #$%@. I love ❤️ this place!Thank you for making me feel like family. I love the compass I purchased!

Amazing place. I was referred here from the Bayou Lacombe Museum that I went to the other day. This is half museum about the great city of Covington, Louisiana and it's creation and half hardware store. There wasn't anyone really to tell me about everything, but it was amazing to walk through. Free museum, but I bought some postcards to send to friends and some handmade soaps. I would recommend this to anyone in the area or coming to the area. Great place, friendly employees, well organized, great stuff to buy.

The Smith family has preserved this for the benefit of others. We take out of town guests and go regularly ourselves. The museum is free and a service to community, but consider putting a tip in the tip box to keep it all going.

Before heading to the General Store, I was very excited to see what I would find. Had read lots about it online. I came in right when they opened at 8:30 and there were only a few others in already, not sure if they were employees or not. They had for sale several unique and creative decorative items for your backyard, along with the regular items you find at a hardware store. The store gave you a sense of walking back into history as you wandered around. I managed to direct myself to their in-house museum and what a great find it was. I was able to calmly enjoyed every item and read about it. I also appreciated the many pictures available to really get the sense of ambiance throughout the years. But when I returned back into the main store, I came across two folks who appeared to be actual employees, two older gentlemen who disappointedly had no intention on even saying just 'good morning'. I felt not welcomed, it was a shame, so I left.

Not an all-day attraction, but take your time and talk with the 3rd generation owners. I bought a classic cast iron skillet that I like a lot.
