Trashy state park. They’ll let a family with a stroller pay for entry only to discover brackish water closing off the path to the beach and a destroyed boardwalk. I watched them leave disappointed after just getting inside the park.Park people constantly driving up and down the beach destroying what could otherwise be solitude and harassing you. Are they fixing anything? No. Just bothering you.Everything is off limits but they’re happy to take your money. Why are tax dollars going into these gas tanks and these guys’ paychecks so they can cruise the beach and bother visitors, when there is so little to visit, and they won’t fix the rest?

Not pleased: The alert says boardwalks closed, they don't say difficult or no access to beach. Only one washroom open and it is in poor shape, ceiling tiles missing, falling down in poor repairThey are adding/fixing a 5th floor on a lookout tower??? Could easily fix the boardwalks for that cost. No Pets on beach signs everywhere for beach. They could easily make a trail a few hundred feet to the public beach. Don't let the asphalt pads fool you. Our site 44 was so badly flooded after a little rain we required a long 2x8 to get out of the trailer. It has nowhere to drain. Mosquitos were terrible. The only nice thing about this place is going to the public beach with your dog, but you have to drive a short distance.

Only 1 trail out to the beach. Mosquitos are worse here than all of the other coastal areas combined. Not what I would expect for a State run park.Playground: There isn't one.Restrooms: Extremely, dirty and infested with wasps and hornets.Dog-friendliness: No dogs allowed on the beach.

Unfortunately this Park is still under repairs from storm 2 yrs ago. Boardwalks, pier and one washroom are closed off. No wifi but mobile data available. Remaining washroom rated fair.No sewer hookup. No dogs allowed on beach. Go 1 km down the road to public area and fido can run free.

Beautiful RV park right next to the beach. Spent a lot of time riding bikes on the beach and collecting shells. This beach was too muddy for swimming but 2 miles up the road is a good swimming and fishing beach. Clean bathhouses, but entrance from bathhouse to beach is closed at this time. (Repairs underway). Campsite is extremely dark at night, well patrolled and quiet, with camp host on site. No sewer hookup, but convenient dump site.

Super nice lady in the gate house but the park was huge disappointment for us . Basically closed down due to storm damage. The Campground seemed kinda plain but not bad for the money. Showers and bathrooms were decent. A long drive for not much.

Love this place. Locals are always super nice. Quiet and relaxed. They have come along way since the last hurricane tried to destroy them

Good value with friendly staff, especially Jerome Holmes, the main guy. The state should give him a raise. And he takes awesome wildlife photos.

It was salt water like the gulf, and several degrees warmer than central Louisiana.

No sewer hookup but water and electricity (30 & 50 amp). All large pull thru sites. Showers and restrooms clean but ageing a bit. Picnic table and grill at each site. Good dump station. Can't see ocean from sites due to natural sand berm but only about 100 yards away. Palm trees on most sites but not much shade. Close to food, gas, propane. Good value. $33 per night---1/2 price if over 62.

Visited in January so not busy. Was a fee, $3 per person, to get in as it's a state park. The teenager at the booth did not say that both beach access areas were closed for repairs which is why it did not get 5 stars. We had to drive all over to figure out how to get to the beach as the walkways pictured were both closed. Had to park in an RV spot and walk from there as it was the only place to access. Pretty beach, did have rocks to break the waves which Elmer island did not.
