I love Dr. Charlot so much. I have been to a few other vets in the city--usually whatever office is closest to where I live, but wanted to get a second opinion after my old vet was going to make us do sedation and xrays to start arthritis treatment for a short course of NSAIDs. Dr. Charlot has been the most thorough, seems the most evidence based, and is so caring. He or his staff always call or email to check in on my little old pitbull after appointments, the front of house staff and back of house staff clearly love animals and what they do, and its pretty easy to get in when you need to be seen. Highly recommend.

They are very expensive! I was told a month before my cat’s spay that the surgery would be ~$300 after a $100 dollar deposit. The max estimate on day of surgery was ~$450. So $550 including the deposit. You can get this surgery + a microchip implant done for $50 or less. They also made me test my cat for FIV, (when i knew she did not have this, as I’ve had her since birth and have records of every cat she’s ever been around) before surgery because her platelets read as low. They took that $70 charge out of the deposit without disclosing that at all. My friend is a doctor and said that happens to human platelets too, and they have to rule that out before making any calls. So I feel I have been (maybe unintentionally) scammed multiple times by this vet office!

My experience at Mid City Vet was overall quite negative, and I'm not sure what to make of the experience but I felt compelled to share in case anyone is considering taking their pet here. We brought our elderly cat in for a few different issues, primarily a severe UTI. We were given a cocktail of medications to administer daily and bring her back within a month to see any improvement. After a month, we brought her back to be told that her levels were the same and to bring her back in 3 months, and very little other information. This struck me as odd but we trusted the vet. Meanwhile, her condition was worsening and we bring her back a month or so later where she is given a "preventative" antibiotic shot "just in case" she had a UTI even though the labs they took showed no signs. A couple weeks after that, she's hardly moving, eating, rejecting the medications, urinating on herself. We call, panicking, and they say Dr. Hess is out of town but we can come and get more labs done. I felt very strange about this and decided to call another vet for a second opinion. We get to the other vet, and they look at the labs sent from Mid City Vet and tell us immediately our cat has Stage IV kidney failure and all medications she was on were barely keeping her alive. This was NOT communicated to us at any point by Midcity Vet, and we were repeatedly given hope that the therapies we were giving her would help her recover. We felt we were deprived of the opportunity to spend her last months with love and care. Instead of sending her off peacefully, her last months were full of injections, oral medications and vet visits. These were costly and it felt incredibly dishonest of this clinic to not very clearly express what was happening with our pet, continuing to instead recommend more and more treatments. Within minutes of seeing the other veteranarian, she very concisely explained the labs and the severity of our cat's condition, something MidCity Vet failed to take the time to do. I am incredibly disappointed with this clinic and I recommend anyone with cats seek help elsewhere.

The new vet there is excellent- handles our anxious dog expertly as she could relate having an anxious dog of her own. This was a huge relief. Everyone in there, front desk and tech, was extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were all comfortable and the visit moved along smoothly

I love this place! Everyone is extremely friend and loves animals and genuinely seems to enjoy their job. I love that they take the time to get my dog comfortable before they do anything and interact with him on his level. Love love love!

Wow! Dr. Hess are her team are amazing. Today was our first visit and they made my nervous cat so comfortable. She listened to all my concerns and explained everything so wonderfully. Her vet tech also drew a themed portrait of my cat on his medicine bag. These people really care

Don't expect any warm fuzzies from this place. Tech was rude from start to finish, mute, very much lacking in communication skills. Whole experience was traumatic for both puppy and handler.

We found Dr Hess at the end of a long road. She and her team provided excellent care for our beloved pet, supported our fight and gently guided our family through crossing the rainbow line. Thank you, Dr Hess.

Dr. Bridget D. and assistant were A M A Z I N G with our Japanese chin Chi Chi who is typically an absolute terror when it is time for her shots. They were so patient, calm and gentle!! I was beyond impressed and extremely thankful.

They take very good care of pets. Their communication with pet parents could be better.

Very well organized and thorough. Brought my new Boston Terrier here for an overall checkup. They got me in quickly and went above and beyond. The kicker? They still had me in their records from visits with another pup several years ago.
