I recently had the pleasure of visiting a local southern candymaker, and it was an experience I'd love to share. As soon as you step inside, you're greeted with the irresistibly rich smell of butter that instantly makes your mouth water. The ambiance is welcoming, with an authentic southern charm that's hard to find elsewhere. What really impressed me was the efficiency of the service. Despite being a popular spot, the line was short and moved quickly, which is a huge plus. I tried three of their specialties: the chocolate praline, peanut butter praline, and creamy praline. Each had its unique flavor profile, but the highlight was definitely the chocolate and creamy pralines which were served warm - a rare and delightful treat! As someone who doesn't usually go for overly sweet things, I found the pralines a bit much for my taste. However, the warmth and freshness of these treats made the experience enjoyable. It's a testament to their dedication to quality and tradition. For anyone with a sweet tooth or an appreciation for artisanal candy making, this place is a must-visit.

This place caught our eye from down the street. It is a quaint candy shop with high prices but very good service! We walked in and immediately smelled the candy and sweetness. The workers at the cashier offered us free praline samples, which were tasty! The store itself is pretty small, but the shelves are stocked with so many kinds of candy, sauces, and other items. They even have ice cream with 8-10 flavors, and refrigerated drinks! The prices overall were high. For example, a pound of dark chocolate glazed almonds was nearly $20, but I feel like this place is unique. It's located near french market and gazebo cafe, and I'm recommend stopping by if you have a sweet tooth!

Upon entering the charming shop of this southern candymaker, the first thing that hits you is the delicious aroma of butter, a promise of the treats to come. One of the best things about this place is the short line, which moves surprisingly fast, ensuring you get to the sweets without much wait. I decided to indulge in three varieties - the chocolate praline, peanut butter praline, and creamy praline. To my delight, both the chocolate and creamy pralines were still warm, adding a cozy and inviting touch to the experience. While I must confess that pralines are not exactly my cup of tea due to their sweetness, there's something about enjoying a warm, freshly made treat that elevates the entire experience. Even if you're like me and find pralines a bit too sweet for your palate, the warm, buttery aroma and the quick service make this place worth a visit.

I walk outside with my kid this morning to see their van flying down our one way street the wrong way to avoid a minor construction detour. Thanks for making our neighborhoods unsafe.

We stopped to try a free sample. It was delicious. We plan to go back before the end of our trip to get some pralines to take home.

The Best Pralines in New Orleans. My hubby and I wanted to bring home pralines as souvenirs for friends and family, so we bought a bunch of different pralines from different candy stores, them took them back to our hotel and had a big taste test. Southern Candy was the winner by a LARGE margin. We gobbled up the Southern Candy and threw away the other brands. There's no comparison. Read the ingredients and you'll know why: just sugar, pecans, butter, and cream. The others had corn syrup, vegetable oil, etc. You can taste the difference. Highly recommend!

We stopped here twice on our weekend trip. The pralines were just that good! Blake helped us both times. He was so helpful and beaming with positivity! He even gave us a great recommendation for pizza! Thanks Blake!

I came in for milk chocolate tortues but, they were sold out. Almond was able to make the exception for me. She made me some on the spot and are soooooo delicious!!! The customer service and taste are the best in NoLa!

The first time I came to New Orleans I walked past this shop and wanted to check it out because I saw they had sweet potato pralines. Sadly, they had just closed and I was leaving the next day before the store would open. I put them on my list of places I would have to check out when I returned. Four years later I finally made it back and it was worth the wait. I got the lemon and sweet potato pralines. They were both amazing. Southern Candymakers is now on a small list of places I'll have to come back to whenever I visit New Orleans. The pralines aren't cheap. They cost $36.95 a pound but they are truly delicious. I'd highly recommend visiting if you're ever in New Orleans. They have another location I think is considered their main/flagship store. In addition to pralines they sell other items - chocolate and chocolate covered sweets (Oreos, Marshmallows, etc.), candies, and fudge.

Just went in and the lady at the register had a nasty attitude. We put our items back and left the store. We’ve eaten their pralines before and they definitely weren’t great, we were just in the area. Never again.
