Please do yourself a favor and take the cooking class!! The sticker price might be a little scary but it’s 10000000% worth it! (plus if you account for the fact that it is 3h long, plus you get museum admission and a tour, AND a whole3-course meal out of it, it really makes sense!) Also a lifetime of knowing how to make your own Gumbo? Priceless. It felt like being in my aunt’s kitchen again; something I haven’t felt since I was a little kid! We learned:- how to flambé spiced rum for bananas foster- how to stir the pot properly to make roux for gumbo- what order in which to cook the “holy trinity” to keep your dish from just tasting like onions (don’t just throw them all in at the same time!)- how to keep roux balls from seizing up- never get splashed by hot soup again: the “dump truck” method for pouring something solid into a hot pot of liquid- so many other priceless cooking tips! Also it comes with a museum tour and the tour guide (Sue?) was amazing and so passionate about the museum. She has so many fascinating stories, I could listen to her all day.

We were here to take a cooking class, I highly recommend taking a cooking class at Deelightful Roux School of Cooking led by Dwynesha Lavigne, the class was amazing and you should check it out.The Museum itself has a lot to see and so many items that we were not able to finish the tour nor see everything. A few things to keep in mind while visiting here is that the items are grouped by states and there is very little information about why each item is important or its significance for that state, so for a great story telling experience get the tour. There are some great details about Absinthe and its history along with a nice section for Leah Chase, an amazing woman who everyone should know about.I recommend going for the cooking class and staying for the museum.

Much smaller than I anticipated and the bar was closed, but the exhibits are very in depth with lots of really wonderful and interesting historical insights into food and drinks in the south. Full sized dioramas and displays as you wander state to state through there. A scavenger hunt Is available on the website too! Fun stop for folks who like food history.

A small but very interesting 2 for 1 museum. They are getting a liquor license so they can teach cocktail classes. They do cooking demos and children's summer camp cooking. We met the woman who started the museum! It is arranged by the states of the south and include DC and Virginia.3 blocks from the St. Charles St. Trolley at MLK Ave.

The cooking class was a great experience! And I loved the curated collection and exhibits of southern food state by state. My small group cooked creole food with Chef Dee and sous chef Candy, and had an intermission where the Education director gave us a great rundown of Cajun vs. creole history and food. Can't recommend the museum and cooking class enough to New Orleans visitors.

This museum was so fun! Where else can you grab a drink and learn about southern food and booze?! The gentleman at the front desk as well as the bartender were very nice, which made for an overall great experience. I highly recommend getting out of the French Quarter and visiting. The Saint Charles streetcar line will get you very close. Also, check out Happy Raptor distillery that is just a short walk from here.

The cooking class and history lesson was amazing. So fun to learn about the various cultures and traditions that make New Orleans what it is today.

prebought the tickets online, i think around $5 per person. This place also has a bar, decent prices. i grabbed a STRONG drink to go.the museum itself is incredibly overwelming. from floor to ceiling from the windows to the wall, you will be emersed in everything southern cooking. i just wish there was a guided tour. i feel like i missed out on so much. we were here for over an hour, and it was almost impossible to grasp and learn everything. however, i loved it and picked up on some new facts. it was also an impressive collection of history of the food and service industry of the south.

We booked a hands-on cooking class, which was well worth it, with our ticket to the museum. The format, food, and knowledge shared by the owner/chef of the kitchen and museum director was great. It was a most enjoyable experience. The only negative experience, would be the assistant during the cooking portion, was very rude. She consistently made fun of and belittled participants who didn't do things the way she thought they should be done. The chef was so kind and thoughtful, but during the prep portion I felt very nervous because of the comments and judgement by the assistant. That part could definitely be improved with a bit better communication.

P h e n o m e n a l experience. I have so many wonderful things to say about this experience yet you'd be much better off attending and experiencing it yourself! 10/5 all day.Absolutely sign up for Chef Dee's cooking classes. The Southern Food & Beverage Museum is a MUST! This museum and cooking school is a NOLA hidden gem. It's a great way to learn about the history of the city and its food culture. Check the schedule for Chef Dee's cooking classes. It is a wonderful way to have lunch--you will leave with a full belly and yummy recipes to take home!

As a tourist I was excited to learn the history of all the delicious food I had been consuming. The displays focus on each southern state individually with exception of the first exhibit which was specifically about the history of Popeyes. After coming directly from the WWII museum I think my expectations were WAY too high. The LA section exclusively talked about the history of red beans and rice. I just wanted more in depth information about the specific food history of NOLA and it's evolution. This museum is a labor of love and an awesome concept it just could use more funding. The higher than average rating is to account for the fact that I did not participate in a cooking class of which there are rave reviews.

Absolutely love SoFab and the Deelightful Roux School of Cooking. Our class with chef Dee included a great tour of the museum - every time I'm there I see something new! Thanks for teaching us how to make a three course Creole feast and sharing so many great stories with us Chef Dee!

Really great displays on everything southern cooking and cocktails! You could easily spend an hour - 1.5 hours browsing around and reading all of the information available. Take a cooking class while you’re there-you won’t be disappointed!!

We took Chef Dee’s cooking class to bring in my 30th birthday on our trip to New Orleans. We went in with no expectations and a completely open mind and left with a full belly, some new skills and an experience of a lifetime! The steps were easy to follow and though we were there with two separate parties, Chef Dee quickly made the atmosphere feel like we were all a part of her family. Her sister as the sous chef was a great touch as I was there with my own (pictured, green shirt).I cannot recommend her class to enough people. If you are in NOLA for any reason and want to have a great time and really get a hands-on feel for the cuisine, this is where you need to be!
