As others have noted, the stock here is mainly rare and out-of-print, and therefore quite expensive (unreasonably so, I thought, but I assume they know their clientele). Also cramped and a bit of a mess. I know some people find this charming, but I prefer a shop with at least a little room for some human browsers among the books.

Walking feels like an adventure. If you like older out of print books this is probably a great place to check.

Great old and rare bookstore! I spent a few hours scouring the shelves and didn't even scratch the surface! So many treasures. And John is very friendly and knowledgeable. Definetely worth a stop in quaint and historic Bath!

Fabulous place to find books about Nature and Maine plus 100s of other subjects!

Just a wonderful place to spend an afternoon... It's cozy but a bigger space that would allow one to see every single book should be better. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable and seems to enjoy his work. It was a little warm in there today with temps in the 90's..

Trust me, I love old books. I love the look and feel of an old book, the history behind it, the leather binding, the illustrations, the onion-skin paper usually found at the beginning of the book. But, Open Book is so cluttered that it made my eyes glaze over. Books askew, hanging off the shelves, and barely any room to walk, or stand, for that matter. A claustrophobic nightmare! I was going to ask the employee about a particular book, but he was sitting on the floor in the middle of a pile of books and looked overwhelmed, so I didn't have the heart to bother him. I appreciate that there aren't many bookstores of this kind left, but please -- a litlte organization and less clutter would go a long way in making it a bit more inviting to browse in.
